Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

I think yeahbuddy has it for ISR as his thread on how he promised to quit trolling and then a couple weeks later that he admits to trolling under the same thread. He and Thinker need to start going to sessions of "Trolling Anonymous".

Not sure they can find time with their other commitments:

-Lil Bro anonymous
-Creepy internet stalkers anonymous
-Trailer Park Wi-Fi thief’s anonymous
-My house gets flooded every year anonymous
-Huge hok b-ball fan but never go to games anonymous
-Vanity school plates aren’t just for alumni anonymous

And that’s just on Tuesdays after the 6-12 shift at Denny’s is over.

No I am stuck with Fran because of a number of things. But Weber would not be a better option at this point. I do not think Fran is a great coach, but he doesnt suck like ISU thinks he does. But that is my opinion.
lol, I hope you keep him forever. He is the worst Power 6 coach out there....and it's not close.

Weber's W/L his last 4 seasons at Illinois:
24-10
21-15
20-14
17-15
The first three of those seasons, he won 60% of his games. The last season was no great thing, but to say his record was bad is simply not accurate.

Do you know the kind of talent the guy had? Honest question because it was quite a bit

Apparently he hasn't impressed with his "intensity" at the AAU tourney where Terry and Patrick Mccaffery are playing at....walking up the floor once they got down. Coach actually called a TO to take him out.

Hard to fathom if true....kids sometimes do dumb things.
That was a big problem for him early on in his career. Seemed like it was a lot better this year, but maybe a lot of that is due to winning a lot or being in every game. That's too bad to hear.

I would say the two worst P5 coaches in college basketball are Fran and Jim Christian. I think Mullin is going to end up being better than Fran but he could be in the bottom 3 too

Since Shaka Smart took over as a P5 coach he has underwhelmed by quite a bit honestly. so that would be close in the big 12. I already stated why I do not want weber because that would be a virtual push unless you go back past the last 5 years while he coached in the big 10.

Other coaches get a pass in the big 12 because they have coached 3 years or less and have a lot of talent coming.

what about the ACC?
Danny Manning
Jim Christian
Josh Pastner

what about the SEC?
There are about 3-4 here too that are worse

What about the PAC 12?
again at least 3-4 that are not as good or have a better resume

So the are about 10-15 guys, which is still bad, that are worse. I am not happy with Fran, but that is who we have and I want him to succeed as long as he is here. Can Fran turn it around? I think he can if he gets good recruits, which is something he has not done at Iowa since the Gesell Woody class. He got Cook but one guy cant do it unless he has someone else.
Weiskamp is a great start. IF we can somehow get Terry or Carton(5% chance here) we could be making a push for good improvement. That is all I am saying and want. But chances are it will not happen.

Yes Alex, I'll take "why you can't hang your hat on in state recruiting" for 500 please.

Recruiting is actually a big part of your job as a head coach
I understand that, so I want to see this season through with Fran and if we end up with 2 of these guys with Patrick for 2019 I will be extremely happy Hurt, Carton, Terry, Nnaji. That would be the best class Iowa has had under Fran IMO. But that would be a huge task just going off the history of his recruiting.

Shaka Smart has been to a Final 4 and has been to 2 tourneys in his 3 years at Iowa

Manning and Christian are in the bottom tier with Fran

Pastner is way better than Fran, he was ACC Coach of the Year last year

Manning, Christian, Fran and Mullin are the bottom 4 I have now but I do think Mullin will jump out of there because of their abilities to land transfers

Seriously though, Take a few of the good guys Fran in the state and go get a high end 3* or 4* guy out of state. It only makes sense what he did if he gets Carton and Foster IMO.

Hurt isn't going to Iowa. Nnaji isn't rated very high

Yeah I was grasping at straws there. This year and recruiting are huge for Fran. I hope he can get it done.

Nnaji is a 4* I believe on either Rivals or 247

agree that hurt is a long shot. But we are in the hunt because of the connection with Patrick. But a huge long shot .

Carton and Foster are outliers not the normal in state target. There are several kids on Iowa's roster that are walking examples.
