Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Prohm has vitually the same winning percentage at ISU as does Fran at Iowa.... yes it is 3 years to 8 but both average under .500 in conference. And that is with Prohm having all of Hoibergs guys......

No he doesn't. Prohm has won 59% of his games while playing in the toughest conference in college basketball the last 3 years. Fran has won 55% of his games while playing in the Big 10

He had this disease called cancer....kind of effected his weight.

Honest discussion here. Cancer sucks and is even worse when any kid gets it. Been plenty in my family.

I believe his major bout/s with it was in JH iirc. If it keeps you from gaining weight years later, wouldn’t it stunt your growth also? No crap talking, I truly don’t know. My family members were adults. After treatment they started putting weight back on.

I believe Patrick was tall and extremely thin before he had cancer IIRC

Ok? I said both are under .500 in conference.

Yes, I'm aware. But if that is all that you look at to determine a good coach, I can't help ya much.

So ISU has also regressed from round of 16 to round of 32 to no tournament.... but Prohm has proven to get them back to where Fred had them? and Fran cant do it correct?

I'm not going to explain to you why the clones were where they were last year, again, as it has been beat against a wall hundreds of times.

Where did Fran come into this conversation? I thought we were talking about Shaka and Prohm in comparison?

Him and Prohm have an almost identical conference record over a 3 year period

No idea but you also need to remember his cancer was in his thyroid.

That could have a huge impact on his growth and development.

Not an expert at all....from the limited amount I know from reading about his situation....apparently some of the post cancer treatment involved hormone treatment because of the thyroid. All I know is it effects his growth/weight.

There's no argument that you can say Fran is as good as Prohm. He's accomplished more since he's been at ISU in 3 years than Fran has in his entire coaching career

Because he won a Big 12 tournament that was gifted when KU lost, and went to a sweet 16? All with someone elses players. I am not saying he cant do well, but it is not out of the question that he struck gold early like Bruce Weber at Illinois.

Yeah ISU has really struggled to beat KU at Hilton South. Fran has never won a P5 conference tourney or made it to the second weekend in the tourney in his career and he's 60! Prohm did that in 3 years!

This season will be the year we see the real separation between Steve and Fran. 100% Steve's guys and a full roster. I can't guarantee ISU will be dancing, but I have a pretty good feeling they will be. Iowa, won't be. They'll likely add 2 to 3 wins over last year's total, but that's it.

Good post. I have seen the predictions settle down a bit the today. Last week it was I was delusional to think ISU could be a bubble team. Now I said they are a lock and all ISU fans can say is wait, they are not a lock but they should be.....I predicted last week that Iowa will more than likely not make the dance but should improve. All you have done with this post is say what what I have been echoing all along. But ISU fans hate that I say it a certain way I guess.
