If I was the Iowa AD and that happened he would be given the ultimatum that you make the tournament with Bohannon as a senior or you are gone. That is where I am at. given the recruiting situation. If Iowa misses on Terry and Carton and gets Locure I am still OK if they also get another good athlete in that group. It is a complex situation to me considering what could happen.
I would give him a 2 year window starting now and say "you had your down year, show improvement from that next year or you will leave. If you do not make it to the tournament in 2 years you will be gone, especially if Patrick is the only top recruit we get."
that is where I am at. As an Iowa fan I already know it will be unlikely to make the tournament next year, but we have to show an improvement from this year.
Is that to long of a leash? I am not sure, I do not want to mess with the current crop of in state talent coming through if we are getting them to commit though. They are some really good players coming up again.
To be more direct, If he misses the tournament but still shows improvements with a winning season I would be ok with him staying 1 more year. And if he misses on Carton he needs to bring in another talented PG. Locure is talented in the aspect that he is more athletic than any guy we have. And he plays good defense.
When does your 2 year window start? Right now? In theory, he can miss 2 more tournaments and there's a scenario where you'd keep him? That would be 4 non-NCAA years in a row.
I'm already assuming that Iowa will miss next year and he will be retained. In fact, I'd bet money on both.

Locure is a mid major prospect but I love the mentality. As long as it's not worse than last year let's keep him!
I would absolutely fire a guy who missed 3 tourneys in year 7 8 and 9 with no body of work ahead of it

It would be very complicated if he had Carton, Patrick, and another 4* on board for 2019 though. That is where it gets interesting. They you say, OK. This is your last shot. Win with those guys and bohannon group or be gone. (But honestly, Carton is not coming to Iowa IMO. I think he goes to UNC or Kansas.... isnt that where all really highly rated kids in Iowa go? Maybe he even goes to Michigan or OSU)
If Patrick can get some of his new AAU guys to follow him to Iowa that would be cool, but again that wont happen.
@benjimill has said repeatedly Iowa needs that 7th home football game a year for budget reasons.
If 9-10 mil isn't a big deal, get that Notre Dame game you wanted so bad. It would have only been a 1 time thing.
Even if he goes to say the NIT, not preferred I know that, wins some games there, has basically the whole team back with good recruits coming in, you would fire him and not let him try to make the tournament. You would lose 2 or 3 top 100 recruits and your roster probably has another 2-3 transfers..... That is a huge risk. Way riskier than saying Win in 2020 or get out.
Why is Locure considered mid major? I have heard his lack of offers stem from anything and everything... attitude, grades, size, shot style, When i have seen him play he looks to be a good prospect that will blow up this summer. I think he gets some P5 offers this summer.
What good recruits are you talking about? Iowa isn't getting Carton
Who does Locure even have an offer from? The previous Drake staff even stopped recruiting him. Look at players like Terry and Carton who are racking up offers in the last month while nobody wants Locure
Recruiting is meaningless if you can't coach for s***. It'd have to be a pretty large amount of "improvement".

I said 99% sure it wont happen, Locure could get more offers and is getting looks right now from a lot of places now that he is playing on a different AAU team. Terry is blowing up and it isnt even summer.
Last year I think it was one of the ISU recruits blew up in the spring and summer and now he is the top of the 2018 class for you guys....
