Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Is that with or without Tyler Cook?

WITH, If we go without I would say 6 wins would be the max for the current roster. Probably closer to the same 4-14 record. so between 4-6 wins in conference and between 8-10 out of conference for the top out without Cook.

12-16 wins total without Cook.

Now I am going to change subject but where do you guys see ISU landing with the influx of talent?

Sorry, I know it was discussed pages ago, but I fail to see any significant improvement in these numbers from a supposedly top 50 recruit.

Woodbury was actually a project so lack of improvement is ok.

Well jeez struck a cord with that guy. He was a project for a big man, if you could not see that then you dont know much about big men and developement in college basketball. He was not a 1 and done? I dont get how he was not a project there.

If ISU doesn't make the tourney next year that will be a massive disappointment IMO. What we return and what we bring in we will have some dudes

I can see a bubble team. Anything more would be gravy. Sometimes freshman do not adjust. Will be interesting to see how the roster is managed. You do have talent. I would not be surprised either way.

His efficiency numbers might be easier to read. Putting out a lot of "output" per 40 does not mean you were a good player. You could just be a ball hog.

He was kind of just always an average player. That was it. He had a nice leap in BPM from his freshman to sophomore year but never really changed.

Might want to tell that to Fran who was saying before his freshman year how he was going to be an immediate impact player in the Big Ten

We won't be relying on freshman next year

I honestly don't know. I would think being above .500 is a must, and there will be some disappointed if we don't make the Tournament. Bubble team is probably what I would go with for now, not knowing more. We have so many new pieces coming in at one time that it's hard to say where they (and consequently the rest of the team) will all end up. It could be anywhere.

I would hope the floor is the NIT. Making the Tournament would bode very well for the following season(s); I think the Tourney would be a success even if we exit early/get a bad seed. NIT is meh at best, below that is bad.

I already said it usually takes a year or two for big men to adjust/develop, but he was not a project. Projects aren't 4* Top 50 players. So if someone is not one and done they are a project? The 6'10" guy that weighs 170 lbs and just started playing basketball a couple years ago? Yeah let's redshirt him and try to make him into something.

I love the fact that Marial Shayok isn’t even being thought of. I don’t think it’s a reach to think at worst he’ll be 3rd team Big 12. I can’t wait to see him in some uptempo offensives schemes.
