Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

It still blows my mind how many players still bite his pump fake though.
He's crafty around the hoop but he has to develop his right hand....

On a Cyclone note.....I really like Lard with his athleticism and effort. He needs to develop his left hand as well....I'm sure he's working on it. A guy like Lard doesn't necessarily need a mid range jump shot to be really effective but to go to the "next level" he does have to finish with both hands and a little left handed jump hook would be extremely effective for him. Lard has the length and athleticism to be really, really good if he can do that.

Back to Pemsl....he HAS to develop a mid range jump shot because he has to have guys come out to guard him.

Why do Iowa fans make a damn near ******* 3 deep when making lineups lol. Not every player can play. You all have seen it not work playing 13 guys a night for how long now. When will it stop lol

Did I say all would play? If some get in it will be spot minutes. I agree it has not worked out how I as a fan would like it, but ISU minus Hoiberg the last year is not working like it used to either. "we won the big 12 tournament 2 years ago" yes you did, with the Hoiberg leftovers. Prohm might be a great coach, but this next year is his defining year.

Hawkeye fans know Fran is at a crossroads and know what has happened in the past. Prohm has to prove he can do it with his guys. If he can good for ISU, but last years success was not great. He has good guys coming in I will give him that.

I as a fan of Iowa I will not discount the experience factor. Lots of guys coming back. "but they are bad" defensively yes they were bad, but that can change.

I don't get it. Fran has had 3 total seasons out of 8 where he had a winning conference record yet Prohm has a second place finish along with a tournament title followed by an expected down year and hawk fans seem to think that suddenly year 3 with a ton of very young talent is his "defining year". If that is the case what is year 9 for Fran who can't even win over half of his conference games over 38% of the seasons? Oh yeah, it doesn't matter since you can't afford to fire him anyway.

Fun stat to use there as he has had 3 seasons of under half of the conference games too.

He has been 9-9 or better 5-8. Not an awesome stat, but certainly not doom and gloom either. I said Iowa basketball is at a crossroads right now. He started out 4-14 8 years ago and also went that this year. Has had 2 horrible years out of 8. I want Iowa to succeed and I think Fran can do that with some adjustments. Will he do it? No clue, but it has started with his weight training philosophy. His recruiting has gotten better since the 2013-2015 classes. Now it needs to reach the next level.

@CyTwins thinks Prohm should be on the hot seat if ISU misses the dance next season. Sounds like a defining season to me.

And won’t this be Prohm’s 4th season at ISU?

Yup, thanks for the correction. He has two seasons where he had double digit conference wins and a conference tournament championship with one expected down year. Yeah, a "defining season" this year only defines this year, not him.

For someone who seems to spend every waking moment disagreeing with CyTwins and trying to prove him wrong you sure seem quick to quote him and treat it as gospel when it serves your purposes.

He’s one of the most optimistic Clone fans on this site. If he thinks Prohms seat gets warm without an NCAA appearance then he certainly can’t be the only one that thinks that way.

But all of those major contributors were Fred’s players in the first 2 seasons.

The down year definitely wasn’t all his fault due to the roster Fred left him but it’s his job to rebuild it.

Yes, yes it is. And, fortunately, we don't have to rely mostly on coach's kid(s) and tie-ins with sons of fanatical fans as our means for recruiting and rebuilding. We are also open to taking a chance on Grad Transfers / Sit-outs to bolster our talent pool and competitiveness in practice. If I were an Iowa fan I would be extremely pi$$ed at Fran for not aggressively going after a pg transfer to push Connor and JorBo this coming season.

Come on man, you'd give your left one to have Prohm's roster in IC next season.

It definitely is his job to rebuild it.

I am confident he is doing that with the players he has brought in that will see the court in 2018-2019.

I don’t think anyone will disagree that Prohms seat will be hot if he doesn’t make the tournament.

We have higher standards than 2 NCAA wins in 8(?) years here at Iowa State.
