****Official Class of 2019 Recruiting Thread****

DMR's Matthew Bain's current status with ISU and Iowa's recruiting targets entering the summer. We really haven't had this much ISU v Iowa head to head competition for this many recruits in on summer for a while.

.J. Carton, PG, Bettendorf: Iowa and Iowa State are squarely in this race, along with Ohio State, Indiana and Michigan. Marquette and Wisconsin are also in the picture, but the other five schools are the major players right now. Carton told me he's already spoken with Ohio State, Indiana and Michigan about setting up summer visits. He also said he wants to visit Iowa City and Ames this summer. His high school coach told me Marquette wants to set up a visit, too. Carton is trimming his list down these next couple weeks, and he could decide as early as late summer.

E.J. Liddell, PF, Belleville West (Illinois): Iowa State still wants Liddell, the Mr. Basketball of Illinois. And it wants to remain involved in his recruitment. But the St. Louis-area product is going to be a five-star, top-25 forward before too long. He's tacked on offers from Louisville, Texas A&M, UConn and Georgetown this offseason. This recruitment for Iowa State boils down to a simple question: Will the Cyclones be able to hold on and stick in the picture as Liddell takes off? Iowa is still interested and nearby schools Illinois and Missouri are entrenched here too.

Mario McKinney, PG/SG, Vashon (Missouri): Missouri is Iowa State's biggest competition for McKinney, a four-star combo guard out of St. Louis. Iowa State had an in-home visit with him in April. But the Tigers appear to have prioritized McKinney over Carton, as they've faded away from the Bettendorf star's recruitment. McKinney is close with Liddell, who he plays with on Brad Beal Elite. The two aren't necessarily a combo deal. But recruiting both only helps.

Tyrell Terry, PG, DeLaSalle (Minnesota): It's sounding like the top two right now are Minnesota and Iowa. The Gophers were a dream offer for Terry, a rising point guard out of Minneapolis. But he's also been vocal about how it mattered that Iowa was his first offer. Iowa State has kept its eye on Terry this month, but it hasn't extended an offer yet. Carton is Iowa's No. 1 point guard option. Terry is not far behind.

Kira Lewis, PG, Hazel Green (Alabama): Iowa State likes Lewis a lot. It secured an in-home visit with Lewis this month, and his stock is surging. But Alabama is all over the four-star point guard right now and is the presumed favorite. We'll see how Lewis' recruitment trends the rest of this offseason, and if the Cyclones think it's worth continued resources.

I'd argue that KyKy is above D.J., but either way, reallly like the list we have set up right now.

Do all these PG recruits realize they won't get playing time at Iowa as long as McCaffery's son(s) is/are at Iowa?

I think it is highly likely the Carton ends up at Iowa. Just to many things in their favor to over come.

Yeah that's not going to happen. I think we have a better chance than they do actually but I don't think he ends up staying in state

I'm not sure what makes you fell it is "likely ends up at Iowa" unless your referring to proximity.
D.J. has been open to all schools throughout the process. His actions don't indicate to me he has focused on Iowa or any other school prior to him cutting his list soon. While he has taken many visits to EIU but has been on unofficial visit to many of the schools over the past year. Good for him as he needs to make an informed decision.
I don't think ISU is anywhere near a favorite at this point but I can easily see Carton ending up at Michigan, OSU or Indiana as likely as Iowa.

My gut says in order of likelihood:

1. He leaves the state
2. Iowa
3. ISU

Some of the reasons I think EUI is the favorite is because of family connections (grandfather), mentions that he has AAU teammates going there and that he thinks Fran is a great guy. Also he has a long time connection with Iowa and a level of high level of comfort there.

If this is true, we really need to question his decision making abilities. Which is key for a PG.

Not sure but thats not why I disagreed with your post.

Iowa is more likely than ISU, IMO.

Eric Bossi from Rivals posted yesterday that Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa are the top 3 right now.

Those may be his top 3 right now, but there's still a long way to go. Simply put, Fran doesn't develop guards. Prohm does, however. ISU is also becoming a relatively big name in the college basketball realm. Iowa isn't.

Why would you do this? Let's keep the trolling out of Iowa State threads.

Because he disagreed with my post above.
