Redekers

I have four kids and truer words have never been spoken. There is absolutely no sense in buying anything nice when you have kids. Some day I will own a pristine home with nice furniture, furnishings, etc. For the time being, however, I treat everything as being disposable.

This is spot on.

OP, you might be thinking it’ll last longer because it’s solid material but it won’t. Kids will always find a way to destroy it, no matter how well you think you can keep them under control. You can get really nice looking stuff for 500-600 at most.

As far as if they will negotiate - maybe. They and Homemakers are pretty comparably priced. We've had situations where we were looking at a piece of furniture that was available at both places - one time Redekers was cheaper, the other time Homemakers was. Do some research on local places and price compare.

If it makes you happy to spend $2500 on a crib and dresser, go for it, man. It would have been a waste for us because our kids ended up in Arms Reach co-sleepers by our bed anyway, but if it's worth it for you, who are we to judge?

Convertible cribs sounds silly to us so we will be avoiding those. I’m aware it’s pretty expensive but kids aren’t going to destroy a well made solid oak crib. If our kids somehow manage to destroy it then props to them we won’t lose sleep over it. The idea though is to use it for grandkids or pass it down in the family.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm with the OP here. I've had both cheap stuff and good stuff. the good stuff is way better, can be touched-up with wood markers, is much sturdier, can be used until they go off to college, etc., plus they look better (if you're into that).

We spent about $1,500 per kids on furniture (crib/bed, dresser, and night stand. Well worth it.

Don't ever underestimate a child's ability to destroy something.

That's what I said. Now I have visiting grandchildren. :D

My daughter says try Suite Dreams in Windsor Heights. They run specials over major holidays. She is almost as tight as her old man.

We got our crib there and it made it through five boys. I can’t remember when they outlawed drop down sides, we may have just decided we hadn’t kill any kids yet and kind of winged it with youngest. Plus he was younger of Irish twins, and since his brother was still in crib, we sort of just used bassinet and pack and play thing with him until his brother vacated the crib.

We bought a dresser there with changing table top that looked good as a normal dresser once we were done with diapers.

INhonest

Given the fact that I don’t think I could break the crib myself without tools I’m not too worried.
^^^ missed thread on crayons on fireplace brick mortar

You've made your decision, good luck to you. Let's just say that kids' creativity in destroying, marring, discoloring or otherwise damaging things cannot be overstated. Also remember that while your kids may be angels they will at some time invite over that kid that willfully damages and breaks things.

Kids will ruin everything you own. Seriously. Don't spend that much cash on something that will get destroyed. As a side, we bought our crib from Babies Are Us for ~$125 and our 3rd child is about to start using it. This thing has been beat up, disassembled/reassembled more times than I care to count, jump on and generally beat up for 4 years.

..........and I'd be willing to bet all the kids turned out just fine.

Leave my kids alone with that thing for 30 minutes and they'll have it disassembled and sold for parts.
