Iowa Football Recruiting

I don't trust Kirk's evaluations at all. He majorly whiffed on that big class of in state OL which is why your depth at that position was so poor last year

Then you are more into the rankings from the websites? which mostly went with how the evaluations of the Iowa staff went?

Man look at Iowa and ISU's class of 2015 in state OL kids. Crazy how bad Kirk did with that one. Yikes!

Kirk "Can't Evaluate" Ferentz's class
Paulsen twins - no offers outside of Iowa, busts so far
Newborg - no offers outside of Iowa, bust so far and moved to DL
Waechter - no offers outside of Iowa, already quit

Then you have ISU who got
Good-Jones - chose ISU over Kansas State, Louisville and Oregon State, stud so far
Meeker - chose ISU over Kansas State, solid piece so far

I see what you are doing here. I am not concerned at all with Kirks evaluation of OL talent from the past to the present as it regards in state and out of state talent. Good - Jones is a good lineman that might be seeing the field at Iowa next year. Outside of that I do not feel like this discussion will go the direction either of us want it to go.

I can list the names of all the in-state guys compared to ISU that Iowa has put in the NFL over the years but in the end you will just bring it back to comparing the 2015 In state recruiting class for OL. The busts so far thing is kind of out of line for a RS Freshman dont you think? considering how well Iowa can put Walk ons on the line and into the NFL? I am not at all concerned about Good-Jones or Meeker. Iowa could have had them if they wanted them but went with other guys.

It's already been established by Iowa fans that JGJ was a big miss by Kirk. Guessing Vance will be the next big one

Much easier for an OL to play early in the Big XII with the lack of talent and size on the defensive side of the ball in that conference.

BF had a pretty entertaining presser today. Here is my favorite answer:

Q: QB back, most of WR and TEs back. Do you see growth? Maybe 3,000 yards passing?

I wouldn't even begin to go down stats road. We just want to throw the ball consistently. We were at 57% last year, not good enough. Have to at least be over 60%. Should we be closer to 3,000 yards? Yeah, I'd like to think so. We have a QB now who is closer to mastering the system. We put a lot on him. We don't look to the sideline. We ask him to think. Not just look to the sideline and see some super cool poster. He has a better view than us, so we ask him to drive the bus.

He has a better view than uptop in the skyboxes? Kid has some vision. Is that what you are getting at, he has great eyes? No sure what else.

What am I missing here? Last year he completed 55% of his passes and had 7 fumbles so we're going to continue to let him make bad decisions on is own. Genius idea!

This is what thinking and driving will get you:
