Yes, I am not denying they have good players. I'm just saying, how is the region they are in any more impressive than where we are usually recruiting? Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, and STL or Lousiana, Houston, Arkansas, and Mississippi. I'd rather take the former, I just don't get why he thinks that because they are in that region it automatically means they should be a power house. Doesn't work like that.

That's an impressive number, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't mean that if LSU got those players they would/should have been good. I mean, Cam Lard wasn't wanted by LSU, but due to his sit out year and his growth I'm sure they would love to have the player that he is this year. They had the best player in the nation a couple years ago, and there was a point that he was essentially thinking about stopping playing regular minutes because it could only hurt his draft stock if he kept playing (got hurt, stats dropped, etc.)

Why isn't Maryland more competitive or thought of as potential power house? They have 13 NBA players and are the only big University in the state.

I understand your point in that they COULD be, because there are players there and they are the biggest baddest school in the state, but obviously that doesn't automatically translate given their lack of success over the past decade plus.

You are confusing potential with results. Maryland has shown what a good coach can do there. They won a championship under Gary Williams.
It is not what should happen. It is what could happen with the right coach because of all the talent and no instate competition.

I'm trying to find the correlation between player potential in a state and the success of a program in that state. Whatever, it's a dumb argument that always seems to be brought up for some reason. I just don't get the infatuation with it.

Last thing I'll say is, I'd take 3 of the top 4 players out of Chicago over 3 of the top 4 players out of Louisiana any year.

Well, of course any team could be good if they got the best players in their states, but that's not how it is haha

You wouldn't swap Snyder for Ferentz at half the pay and better everything else?

Yeah, Illinois generally has some top players. I would say the difference is the competition for them is much higher because of all the schools in close proximity. But it is why Illinois could be so much better if they had the right coach. Look at what Self brought into Illinois. Kruger brought in some talent before leaving as well.
Self brought in Dee Brown, Luther Head, James Augstine and Brian Cook all from Illinois.

ISU is three to seven hours away from all of that talent. LSU is surrounded by talent that is right near their campus not to mention the places that are three to seven hours away.

I never said they should automatically be a powerhouse. Just said they have a much higher potential then ISU or Iowa and thus is a much better job if you want to challenge for a national championship.

just because there are perceived advantages at a job, doesn't mean the job is easier or automatically means more success. But again, I'll be very happy for you if LSU does become this power that you so desperately long for them to be.
