One Sweet 16 in 14 seasons is Statue Worthy at an elite bball school? Yikes!
Yeah, Iowa State basketball was not even respectable prior to Orr. He got the program rolling, played an integral part in building the fan base, and was generally beloved by the Cyclone faithful. They're not an elite (your words) program now without Orr.

Barta would probably make Coach Kilmer say this as Barta would be curled in ball in a dark corner quivering sucking his thumb and saying "take me to a happy place!" Barta is just like "tits on a boar" or in other words worthless!! He has no marbles as Jane Meyers took them last year from him!!

As for the home court advantage, that is factoring in a decade before Orr with again, dump years of basketball play. Orr years were widely known for protecting their home court and had problems on the road (other than neutral courts).

I figured all this "magic" being around for 30 years or so would be enough to overcome the 10 years prior and get Hilton into the Top 50 on that list.

Orr won 76.7% of his games in Hilton. Fran has won 73.5% of his games at Carver since coming to Iowa. What incredible "magic".

Do you think the home court environments are different? Why does Hilton Magic get hawk fans riled up so much?

I guess you missed the part where Orr brought ISU into relevancy and to 6 of first 7 NCAA's.

Here's straight from his Wiki page.

"Orr left Michigan to become the head coach of the Big 8 Conference Iowa State Cyclones in 1980, a program that had not participated in an NCAA tournament since the WWII era. Orr would go on lead the team to six NCAA Tournaments in 14 seasons. The surprise move to Iowa State in 1980 came about when the Iowa State athletic director called to inquire about Orr's assistant, Bill Frieder. When Orr learned how much Iowa State was willing to pay Frieder, Orr negotiated the job for himself. Iowa State initially paid Orr $45,000 annually compared to his $33,665 salary at Michigan. [8] Frieder then would succeed Orr at Michigan. In Orr's fifth season in Ames, he led the Cyclones to their first NCAA Tournament berth in 40 years. The following season, Orr's Cyclones reached the Sweet Sixteen of the 1986 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament with a second round victory over the number five ranked team in the nation, Michigan. Orr claims this was the greatest victory of his career. Orr led Iowa State to four more NCAA tournament berths before retiring from Iowa State in 1994. He remains the winningest coach in Iowa State history with 218 wins and 200 losses."

How ya gonna troll this one?

Because its made up and cheesy. Orr won a whopping 3% more games in Hilton than Fran has in Carver. That isnt magic.

Hilton is a very fine home court and at times can be a raucous environment for opposing teams. But to call it magic like it has some kind of special power is ridiculous and kind of sells the home team short. When ISU is good, it is a hard place to play mostly because of how good ISU is.

How am I trolling when I am listing Orr's record and his accomplishments straight from the source? Because ISU basketball was terrible before Orr brought mediocrity to Ames he deserves a statue?

Wow!! Let's see....

Orr was at ISU for 14 years and Mad Fran has been making kool-aid at Iowa going on 8 years. The way Fran is going that % is sure to drop if you are including this year's "run".

Yeah, and Fran gets to coach during one of the weakest periods the Big Ten has ever had.

6 of first 7 NCAA's and into college basketball relevancy. Simple as that.

Here are a few more little nuggets from that page.

" Under Orr, attendance numbers more than doubled from the 6,000 fan average that preceded his arrival."

"Orr coached Iowa State to 20 victories over teams ranked in the top 25 at Hilton, with writers coining the term “Hilton Magic."

Considering Hilton Magic is real I don't think it's ridiculous to call it that

How is Kinnick considered Historic? Because it's old? Because it has pink locker rooms?
Iowa's 2015 season was its best since the 50's and only 1 game was sold out?

Fixed the first sentence for you.

Are the last 2 really statue worthy? Again, just seems like really low expectations for a basketball school.

It bothers you because you feel something we have is cheesy and made up? It almost seems like you're jealous.

If such numbers existed, I'd be curious the sos comparison between Orr's home schedule vs Fran's home schedule.

The team feeds off the crowd so it's not really selling the home team short. I'm sure it stinks Iowa could never duplicate our environment, even when ranked or playing ranked opponents.
