You guys probably would've looked better if you could've backed up your 12-0 results in either of the Conf. Champ. or Bowl game. Memphis is going to go through the same thing: win the bowl game, look good. Lose the bowl game, look overrated.

Except that Iowa team played Stanford and Memphis plays ISU.

...and? Stanford was a good team, undoubtedly. They would've looked really bad losing to Iowa. Memphis will look bad (and get the typical "G5 sux lol") response if they lose to ISU, too. ISU wins, we don't really gain a whole lot; seems to me that we have more to lose than win. Memphis being favored against a 7-5 P5 team must mean they are a decent team.

I don't get why you guys use the "but Stanford" excuse. You were a 12-0 team, play like one.

I think Memphis are probably pretty comparable as far as how good they are. Same with Iowa and ISU.

I don’t understand Memphis being favored.

My point was that Iowa was trying to validate its record (because of an SOS in the 50s) against a top-10 Stanford, while Memphis is trying to validate its record (because of an SOS in the 80s) against an unranked ISU.

Exactly. Really no comparison at all.

Weren't you ranked higher in the CFP than Stanford was? Again, you're a top-5 team that was undefeated during the regular season. Play like one, instead of going down 35-0 at halftime. Iowa losing the only two games on it's schedule that mattered is exactly why that season lacks respect. The exact same things would be said if ISU went through a similar scenario of storming the Big 12 then getting blown the f*** out in a NY6 bowl game.

I don't really know that Memphis is trying to 'validate their record', I think they're just trying to win a bowl game. If any G5 is playing for validation, it's UCF.

How exactly did we go from talking about Memphis in 2017 to Stanford in 2015 again? I try not to get stuck in the past, that's such a 'Nebraska' thing to do.

Me either, I feel like we should handle them pretty easily actually.
It seems like ISU should be able to score pretty easily and The defense has been good all year so I would be shocked if Memphis won. I think for ISU to lose they will have to put up a stinker, ie turn the ball over and lots of penalties.

Lots of penalties would be very uncharacteristic for this team, unless the same guys who did the K-State game are doing this game, we should be fine there. If we don't turn it over, we win by double digits.

This goes back to the guy talking about how good Memphis is, how they've only lost to 1 team so they're obviously "very good." I pointed out that they've played the #86 SOS, and a few years ago when Iowa went 12-0 in the regular season against an SOS in the 50s the same guy deemed them a joke. So how could a 10-2 Memphis that played the #86 SOS be "very good" when a 12-0 Iowa that played the #54 SOS be a joke? Still waiting for an answer on that.

You're the one who brought up Iowa not backing up its record against MSU or Stanford, so that's how we went from talking about Memphis 2017 to Stanford 2015.

Who said that?

I mean, Iowa getting destroyed at the end of the season really does hurt the whole "good 12-0 team" argument, but I'm not telling you that Memphis is better if that's the angle you're trying to push. It's not like either SOS is good, being greater than #50 as a P5 isn't much better or worse than being in the 80s as a G5. Kinda hard for a G5 to have a strong SOS given their conferences.
