It's time for the Hyvee Classic to die

Three incredibly high level officials that night (Higgins, Boroski, Janssen) assigned by the Big Ten. Fran earned everything that happened that night and had made it abundantly clear he wasn't coming back before the game. The officiating was fine, not great, but just fine.

Also doesn't explain Fran getting run when he brought Siena to the McLeod Center...

Fran is a complete jackass

Maybe someone has already posted this, but I don’t understand why if this is supposed to be such a big event for the state, why can’t it be televised so everyone can watch if they want to

Northern Iowa's Greg McDermott to Iowa State

Since Steve Alford will NOT be leaving the University of Iowa, Greg McDermott opted for the next best job in Iowa in Ames and has accepted the Iowa State head coaching position.

Northern Iowa will try to hire a Scott Sutton type coach. Not saying Scott would go there, just suggesting that it's the first opening where he will get some ink.
....
Northern Iowa
On April 3, 2001, McDermott was introduced as the new head coach at his alma mater, Northern Iowa.[3]

McDermott remained as the Panthers' head coach for five season between 2001 and 2006. During his tenure he led Northern Iowa to an overall record of 90 wins and 63 losses (90–63), the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship, and to appearances in the 2004, 2005, and 2006 NCAA Tournaments.[6]

Iowa State
McDermott resigned his position with Northern Iowa on March 21, 2006, and accepted the same one at Iowa State.[6] McDermott was the Cyclones' head coach for four seasons between 2007 and 2010, and during his tenure led them to an overall record of 59 wins and 68 losses (59–68).[7] His marquee victory at Iowa State came on March 6, 2010, against No. 5 Kansas State. This was his only victory over a ranked team while with the Cyclones.

I despise the Well for BB. Personally never minded the home and home with UNI &Drake. Was even at the Knapp Center the yr. Royce and Co. lost to them. Never went to the McCloud center for mbb but have been there for wbb & VB great small venue arena for watching the game.

Not a fan of games at Wells Fargo. If ISU is going to play in DSM, would prefer it be 2 day2/4 game bracket format. Also, think a Midwest Classic would be fun with ISU plus 3 other MW schools like: Minnesota, Wisky, Marquette, Northwestern, Illinois, SLU, Mizzou, Nebraska or Creighton.

I look at the UNI and Drake games differently. We should never play Drake at Knapp or Wells Fargo. When ISU plays Drake all games should be in Hilton. I have no issue with the Clones playing UNI home & home. UNI has been a solid program for over 15 years. Plus a road game at UNI is great prep for the Big 12, especially if our first Big12 game is on the road.

Read this piece, It's time to go back to home and home with all the Iowa Schools.

I boycott the event. Do not like games in the Well. Plus, do not like being around so many Hawkeye fans.
We should play Drake and UNI every year. I am OK with Home and Home but would prefer 2:1. When I was at ISU, Drake was the biggest game of the year.
The current setup was instigated by EIU.
They said they wanted to play a big time national schedule and could not afford to use two non con games against Drake and UNI. BS - look at their schedule. They just don’t want to lose when they go to UNI or Drake. I am mad Jamie went along with the proposal.
Do not forget, both Allfraud and Mad Fran said they should not play ISU because flagship schools should not have to play lesser in state foes. Stupid pricks!
As a season ticket holder I would rather see UNI and Drake than Alcon State and UWM.
I will watch on TV. Hope we win, but UNI will be the best team we will have played YTD. My guess is UNI wins by 4. Whether you like their style or not, UNI is one of the best coached teams in America.

Fran never said that, and I highly doubt Alford did either.

Iowa State should never play a road game at Drake, not because Drake currently sucks. But, because they are a private school. UNI is a state of Iowa regent school. Iowa and Iowa State should alternate years playing a road game there.

Iowa may not ever go back to UNI under Fran, but we shouldn't set what we do based on them being chickens.

I could live with this compromise.

Playing either Drake or UNI on the road every year is just way outside the norms of a power conference program.

The closest comparison to us is Oklahoma. Same population. Two major conference schools. Two additional D1 programs in decent but not major conferences. It's only slightly different because both are private.

Here's what they've done in the past 10 years:

Oklahoma:
Home vs ORU - 6 times
Home vs Tulsa - 2 times
@Tulsa - 1 time

Oklahoma St:
Home vs ORU - 1 times
Home vs Tulsa - 5 times
@Tulsa - 3 times

So something like a 2 for 1 with UNI and a "play Drake any time they'll drive up to Hilton" is definitely closer to the norm than 5 road games against both every decade like many here want.

In total over 10 years OU/OKstate played Tulsa 7 times at home and 4 times on the road. There's your 2 for 1 with UNI. They collectively played Oral Roberts 7 times at home and zero times @Oral Roberts. There's your Drake home only vs Drake.

Now honestly I would never want Iowa and ISU to only play Drake 7 times total in a decade, but the zero home games is DEFINITELY closer to the norm than 10 we used to do.

When the contract expires after the 2019 games, my guess is that Iowa won't play Drake and UNI on an annual basis. No idea what we'll do probably just alternate between Drake and UNI each year but always at Hilton.

I want an investigation launched into Jorbo landing on the Drake defender's foot on that 3. It looked malicious rabble rabble prison time rabble rabble rabble.

They ABSOLUTely did!
Both said it soon after being hired.

I'm 99% sure Fran never said that because I would remember such an asinine comment coming from him, and there most definitely would of been a thread here on it. I wouldn't be shocked if Alford said something like that, but since you say Fran did as well, you lost credibility.

I like the classic. If you perform well, you are expanding your footprint in the state, and as much as you want to berate people who say that they 'can't' come to Ames for a game, the fact remains that the game is a vehicle for expanding a base, not necessarily catering to the homers that are already on board. Maybe those peeps could come to Ames, if they chose to, but many don't choose to, and this is an opportunity to snag more fans that may like what they see, and make the trip up to Ames in the future because of it. It's better than a true road, or neutral game, as I assume that we get a fair amount of the gate, and we don't have to travel far.

Scheduling it on graduation, seems a bit ill conceived, even if you are trying to entice a new audience, but it is a date that you definitely couldn't have played at Hilton. It doesn't seem any worse than playing a no-name school in a converted convention center, like some of those early season tourneys. The lack of TV, is the only negative that I see in the arrangement, and that is on us I would imagine.
