It's also nice playing in a larger arena that serves adult beverages. I am pretty excited to see how ISU matches up against UNI.

TV needs to get worked out (remember when games were broadcast over the air?), but I think there is some value in getting the team experience playing in an arena that will host the NCAA's and provides people in opportunity to go to a game at a decent price, tickets are still available!!!!

UNI is a well-established mid-major. At times can be a decent win for us later in the year.

I have 0 issues playing them at home, in CF, or in Wells Fargo.

Potential unpopular opinion - this will be my 5th straight year going and I truly enjoy it. For those of us who live in DSM and don't have season tickets at Hilton, it's a fun opportunity to see ISU play in person.

I also find it interesting that they've changed the scheduling for this. Iowa State and Iowa originally rotated who played the late game, with one school playing late in back-to-back years and then the other playing the late game in the next two years. Iowa State is playing the late game for the 3rd straight season and according to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Big_Four_men's_college_basketball), they will be the late game through 2019.

That's because the opening act is never as important as the principal performance.

Right. The trip costs little money to ISU and we play a charged-up opponent for a road test. That's a solid thing with a lot of value.

I don't know why some of you feel it's important to play home and home with drake and uni, other states don't do this annually, why should schools from Iowa have to?

I realize that, but I liked the unique thing that the state of Iowa had in doing that. Plus, it is not like UNI is some bum -- they are almost always an appropriate challenge in the non-con, and Drake has had a competitive program at times. They are often better than Iowa.

I also doubt Drake wasn't making a killing on that home game. Tickets for the ISU game magically jumped to $28 or more on their website. Other noncon games were nowhere near that.

Not calling you out individually but you hear this argument a lot and it comes down to a couple things--

1) It's okay to be unique. It was a neat thing that the state had that nobody else did and didn't seem to be a problem until UNI got good, probably just a coincidence.

2) Iowa doesn't have several DI schools like other states. The other states don't do it because it would literally eat up most of their non-conference schedules. Can you imagine trying to play everybody in Michigan or Florida or North Carolina or Illinois or Missouri?

The old system is never coming back. Iowa and Iowa State have made that perfectly clear and they have all the leverage. I actually think its far more likely that UNI and Iowa no longer play at all after this contract is up with the Big Ten going to 20 league games. Iowa isn't giving up their home games against the worst DI programs that they can find.

I'd love it if Iowa State and UNI would go to a Ames, DSM, Cedar Falls, DSM, Ames, DSM, Cedar Falls arangement. That means Iowa State only has to come to Cedar Falls one out of every three years and still gets a regular game in DSM. We've got an Iowa State guy as our AD now, so I think there's a sliver of hope that something gets worked out between Jamie and David.
