Twins get Eddie G

The Sox would have blocked it, I'm sure, had the Twins won yesterday.

I'm happy to see them get a guy that has been mediocre against the Sox, though.

I doubt that they get rid of Boof. Boof still has time to develop even though it seems like all is lost with him. Remember that one guy by the name of David Ortiz? That didn't turn out so well for the Twins when they released him. haha. Look for some sort of move like Everett going on the DL, he hasn't played for a few days I think with some sort of "injury". So just watch for something like that. It'd be crazy to drop Boof and get nothing in return. He "could" turn into a decent pitcher someday. It just takes some longer than others. It's great to have Eddie G. back though. The bullpen needs him badly!!!!

Could be something like that but I doubt it would be Everett given that he JUST came off of the DL. Maybe Lamb?

thanks, now I have to go back to Ortiz therapy....

I'm no major league GM but this strikes me as odd given the strength of the Twins bullpen. So is Boof gone?

Twins bullpen isn't that much of a strength right now. It's been pretty rough the past month or two getting from the 6th to the 9th inning and a lot of the relievers have been overworked.

Glad they got some bullpen help.... I love Everyday Eddie!

Mike Lamb was sent down.

And whoever says the Twins bullpen doesn't need help hasn't been paying attention since the All-Star game. They've been horrid for the most part and have cost quite a few games.

100% correct. IMO, with some solid middle/late relief over the past month, the Twins would have a nice lead in the AL central.

Well, horrid might be a bit strong. I follow the twins daily and outside of Bonser, I'd say they've done just fine. And he's even been pretty good his last 6 or 7 games. Guerrier has struggled a little lately but without his first half, they wouldn't be where they are. You do realize that defensive miscues cost them the last two games with the Angels right? And I believe that Everett single handedly gave a game to KC. Don't put it all on the bullpen...

Twins bullpen ERA's since the All-Star break.

Guerrier - 10.38
Crain - 6.28

Bonser - 5.03
Breslow - 2.63
Bass - 2.53
Reyes - 1.69

Considering 2 of the 3 main setup guys are over 6.00 ERA I would say the bullpen has been pretty bad.

This is a very good move for the Twins. It gives them a couple of things:
1. Another lefty to come out of the bullpen
2. An rested and experienced pitcher to help the bullpen
3. A vetran of the division push for a title (leadership)

Finally, it reunites Eddie with the best pitching coach in the league - which can't hurt Eddie ;-)

If I were the Sox, I would not have allowed this move. But, I imagine it will be quite a push to the end between the two for the Central Division. It will be interesting to see if both make the playoffs or if Boston/New York is able to sneak into the Wild Card.

The pen has also had 6 blown saves (only 1 by Nathan) in 5 1/2 weeks since the all-star break. Not an acceptable number by Twins standards. Eddie also has better WHIP stats than the rest of the pen outside of Nathan. This could be the best move by the Twins since they acquired Shannon Stewart.

better get a 3B that can throw the ball across the diamond too. I'm not saying the bullpen has been stellar. They've been a bit inconsistent but the defense hasn't been up to Twins standards either.
