Disappointed With Olympic Coverage of Field Events

I only saw the Pole Vault finals - and barely, did not see any High Jump, Discus, or Javelin (except on the web); and didn't see much coverage of the Decathlon. It just seems like NBC didn't put much emphasis on these events. These are traditional Olympic events and should have been given more coverage.

PS: it is noted that the Badminton final bt. the two Chinese players drew over 500 million viewers! Holy birdie - that's more than 2x the adult US population.

Was there a decathlon this year? It's always been one of my favorite events, yet, I don't even think I've heard it mentioned let alone seen any coverage of it.

Fixed it...

Was thinking the exactly same thing haha!

And, I was thoroughly disappointed too in the coverage of field events.

Some of my favorite are watching triple jump, long jump and high jump watching those people jump out of the sky.

I also like to watch them do their little antics on the runway before they even run. Some of the best lol

Yes. There was plenty of coverage on it too.

Brian Clay from USA won the event.

NBC had 1000 more hours of olympic coverage than ever before this year - we may not have seen everything we wanted to but we saw a lot more events than ever before.

Nobody watches the discuss throw and that type of thing. So they just kind of recap those events.

I thought Olympic coverage this year has been the best it has been in a while.

I was out of the US at the time, and the decathlon was a HUGE deal there, I got to see all of the events.

The decathlon was on, live at the end the rest prerecorded and played in prime time. But, like everything else if there isn't an american contender like a lot of the field sports it won't make TV here. And the way chinese TV works that was probably the only thing on TV on every channel and for all we know the chinese government told them they had to watch it.

Actually the Chinese love table tennis and badmiton. I have a friend that has traveled and worked there extensively and according to him on a local level those are the biggest sports in China and everyone plays them.

Probably the times I watch then. I didn't get to see a lot of prime time coverage. My kids, 3 and 5, don't really gel with the idea of just sitting and watching TV, unless it's cartoons. So, instead of just plopping them down in front of a TV, we usually do other stuff, games, books, etc. as a family until they go to bed, around 9. I usually don't start watching until after 10.

Seriously though, that's the first I'd heard about it.

First, I saw bits and pieces of each of these events, so yeah, there was coverage. Second, why aren't you one of the few that are begging for these events to be broadcasted the other 1440 days they aren't televised?

What is the proper forum to vent? Write the TV execs? Letters to the IOC?

I did watch the US qualifying events in Oregon this summer.
