Wait, Chase Allen had 4 catches for 39 yards and 0 TDs on the season and he made second team all Big 12?
Dude was one of the best blockers on the team, that's going relatively unnoticed thus far.
That's what happens when you're an elite blocker. Allen was second team, will Fant even be all conference?
Haha. Right. Makes sense in that "three yards and a cloud of dust" conference that is the Big 12. Seriously, I was impressed by his award. I'm sure he was a fantastic blocker. But, just, wow.
Dude caught one ball every three games. I think you're selling him short by calling him an "elite" blocker.
He was really really good blocking and the coaches took notice.

Because Allen can't block 11 guys. You had the best offensive lineman in the state and Montgomery still averaged more yards per carry than Wadley by a wide margin
For a good laugh I checked HN after the Campbell extension and DeanVogs didn't disappoint. Listed underclassmen on each two deep. In case you were wondering young and Kelly Martin are "way more talented" than Montgomery and Croney, and same goes for Smith Marsette and whatever other future Barnstormer tryout candidate he listed vs Butler and Jones.
To be fair Allen wasn't in when DM broke 74 tackles on that TD run vs Iowa.
But realistically, TE simply isn't a position most Big XII teams have. It's sort of like QB in the Big10.
Can only block 1, maybe 2 guys at a time. For Allen, that generally means at the line. Meanwhile, Montgomery can make 6 guys in the second and third levels miss... In a single play.
Every time I think you're getting better at this, you fall back onto tired old habits.
