In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Not saying he has done a great job or anything, but he is far and away better than Greg Davis. At least we actually take shots down field now. Having two fifth year seniors go out on the OL has really hampered our running game, which is usually a strong point.

Actually he's been worse than Greg Davis

Bump. You trolls always know what's going on with isu so surely you have the scoop on that big baby brain???

I have read a few accounts of what happened but have not heard/read of any of the comments being racist.

That is why I was asking for a link.

Yes, to judge the ability of an OC after 8 games with a brand new QB, brand new WR's and an OL that lost both of its starting senior tackles for the season is a little asinine.

So you still think Brian is a great offensive coordinator. Lol wow

Eesh, I was giving my Hawk coworkers a hard time this morning but some of the comments in this thread, joking or not, are cringe-worthy and rather embarrassing.

They are going to have a couple really tough games the next couple of weeks. Gotta see what he brings to the table and how he adjusts. We have a new QB and we have survived so you can't use that. Players either step up, up or get stepped over these days.

I think Iowa's biggest problem has been recruiting OL the past few years. They have no depth and when they had a couple guys go down they are playing guys that aren't ready. Not sure why they ever passed on Good Jones and Meeker to take the Paulsen brothers who aren't good. They recruited 4 OL in that class and 3 of them were misses.

Wait, don't big time programs have depth?

Waechter is out of the program because of injuries, not really fair to call him a miss.

Levi Paulsen started a game at the end of the year on an OL that won the Joe Moore Award. They both are only RS Sophs, still a lot of time left for them to contribute.

That's the definition of a miss.

Why is Iowa's OL so bad then?

Because we have been playing without our starting OT's for pretty much the entire year.

Its been mix and match up front with no opportunity to develop any continuity. Boone Myers tried going but was moved inside for some reps early in the year and now is out at least until the bowl game. Boettger went down with an achilles tear in the 3rd or 4th game. They tried experimenting with Welsh at RT when his natural position is guard and finally threw Wirfs out there 2 games ago to start.

Not to mention Daniels missed a full game early in the year as well.

Because you have no depth on the OL. ISU is going to play Saturday down two starters from the beginning of the season and I'm sure Montgomery will do just fine. Going out and getting Josh Knipfel was so big for us, not sure why you guys ignore JUCO kids when you miss on a bunch of HS kids.
