I found this article previewing ISU's season on Twitter. Thoughts?

Very fair. Seemed like he actually did his research on everybody, except maybe Talley and Beverley. But Beverley there isn't much to truly go on. I think Talley makes a bigger impact than he was leading on in the article.

All that being said, I thought it was a very well done/researched article.

Pretty high level of detail. I think the only problem with it is taking current percentages. For teams with more stats it would probably be a fairly strong assessment, but for a team like ours there's going to be a high degree a variability. I'm no stats guru but I think that ISU will be better than we are seeing in preseason predictions. As long as we crash the glass better and play decent defense we will be in the hunt.

Excellent analysis.

I would like to make the tournament, but given some of the punditry pessimism about our team, being to the point where we need to win a few games in Kansas City to not sweat it out come Selection Sunday sounds like a good place to be.

That was well-researched and it is clear that a lot of thought went into it. I noticed there's no name on there yet the write says "I'll go ...". Can't use 1st person without a name.

The writer predicts a 7-11 record in the conference; that doesn't offend me because there are some many questions for the Cyclones.

He does seem to underestimate Talley's potential contribution relative to what Prohm has hinted. But that blog looks promising.

I looked at some of the other write-ups in there. He had K-state last based on what they lost and what they are returning. I thought the bolded part of his analysis was funny as hell:

  • Of the 8 players who got regular rotation minutes for K-State, Wade was 7th in shot %, only ahead of Carlbe Ervin. When arguably your best shooter is 7th in ending possessions shooting among your rotation players, your offense is not going to reach its full potential. Wade’s Shot Rate actually went down from his freshman season, when he took 21% of shots when on the court.
  • Here’s the ultimate question. Is this Dean Wade’s fault? Or is this Bruce Weber’s fault? I think it’s an easy answer. Both! There were far too many times last season when Weber would go to his favorite offensive call (DRIBBLE! Seriously, just listen for Weber calling DRIBBLE! from the sideline this season in his raspy, broken voice; you will smile). This would result in his two inefficient guards, Stokes and Brown, running a dribble handoff offense on the perimeter with Iwundu. Unless the ball ended up in Iwundu’s hands, this would also result in an underwhelming possession where Stokes or Brown would often take a difficult shot. Weber needs to do a better job of getting the ball in Wade’s hands.

This is extremely well done. I believe I already posted 7-11 as my conference projection in another thread. I would also agree with him in flipping the number of points SI has Talley and Lindell at.

10-2 or 9-3 in the non-conference + 7-11 in conference would at least put us on the bubble with important games in KC to give us a chance at making the dance. Beating Iowa and winning the tourney in SC are things I'm hoping to see in the non-conference.

Hoping we have one or less losses by conference time, max of two, then I'll reevaluate.

22nd out of 24 of B10/12 combined by CBS, ahead of only Nebby and Rutgers.

Potentially valid preseason. It doesn’t take much in CBB to change that. Had we added Brown and people were as high on Talley/Brase as CF, were probably viewed as 12 or 13.

I know Cam Lard was technically last year's recruit, but that quick review of this year's class helped me remember how impressive it is.

Three 4 star guys and three grad transfers (and that doesn't count Shayok and Jacobson as sit outs). Hell of a job reloading this thing. Add THT (or Harris) to next year's class, and Prohm is a recruiting tour de force.

I had a chuckle myself when reading the OSU preview where he refers to "29-year old Phil Forte".

interesting, not that I agree:
