The Wave

I may be a little too invested in it. We were told our son had a 60% chance of not seeing his 10th birthday at blank and then told to sign up for make a wish. So we went to UIHC Childrens hospital and saw one of the best specialists in the country and he took us on a completly different path of treatment and I honestly believe if not for that place my 11 year old wouldn't be here right now, much less playing sports living a 100% normal life. So yeah, I don't get the petty rivalry crap when it comes to the childrens hospital.

So does the hospital have fox sports regional or....?

A live feed from the Hospital to the video boards is the only way this would work. Get a feed to the Children's Hospital in Omaha, that place is incredible also.

Hopefully nobody watch the ESPN2 propaganda that just aired during whatever game this is.

God bless sick children and their families everywhere. But the general consensus (not mine - but most in this thread) is Cyclones shouldn't be put out over anything to do with Iowa City regardless of the reasons.

But god bless all the families dealing with these horrific childhood illness even if you seek care in Iowa City and the Hawks get a positive story out of it.

Nobody is saying this but you and stubborn. Nobody. Stop trying to make everyone look like a **** so you can feel superior. You're not.

I say we start our own tradition! We'll call it Help Sick Kids (HSK). We can get Cardinal and Gold HSK helmet stickers for the players to wear and sell t-shirts and bumper stickers to fans. I understand ISU doesn't have a medical school, and it's relationship to actually helping sick kids is tenuous at best, but still... who can't get behind helping sick kids?

This is a bad idea and needs to not happen. It was said earlier in the thread... the Iowa football team should go and visit the hospital on Saturday since they have the day off. Hell, they can even take some cameras so they have some footage to air the following week.

They visit the children's hospital frequently.

So I think it is safe to say that a consensus has been reached and our decision is made: ISU will not participate in the Hawkeye wave tomorrow. OK. Good discussion, everyone. Now, moving on to the next topic: Cyclones vs Jayhawks: which team will YOU be cheering for?

Here's a clue:

KANSAS MUST BE DESTROYED!

I'm surprised they're not doing this. You know Iowa would take video and be sending it to every single news organization from here to Beijing for the media attention.

I generally think the whole idea of "filling in" is terrible but doing something like that would upgrade it just being try hard and at least make sense. At least then we'd actually be waving at actual kids who were actually watching the game and making their day better vs just randomly waving to the east at nothing.

I'm sure they visit the hospital on a regular basis same as our team and every other one around the country does for local hospitals.

How about ANH? America needs hospitals.

Well, since you couldn't pick up on the sarcasm... Maybe they should make a "special" trip on Saturday. Have the band play on the field for the kids to see. Have the players wear their uniforms. Pads and helmets. Cups too. Have the local drunk dress up like a referee. Bring the cheerleaders. Bring the goddam game into the hospital. Have Captain Kirk hand out gum to all the kiddies. Do any of this!

But don't ask ISU fans to wave from Ames, when 90% of the Iowa fan base will turn it into a "Did you see what ISU did? They are trying to copy us BS"

As I said I agree there are logistical problems and it isn't feasible and too clunky, not to mention they don't even get that channel. I just think our response should have been "sounds like a great idea, so how's it gonna work?" I am not knocking anyone that had pragmatic reasons for thinking it was a bad idea as I agree with those. Just felt that the rivalry got inserted into it and many didn't want to do anything that was "their thing". Sometimes we should try and remember a lot of things are bigger than this rivalry.

To clarify I didn't say most (if I did, I shouldn't have). But starting with post 6 and scatterred after that there are plenty of examples of needlessly injecting the rivalry into the discussion. That is the petty I am referring too. Plenty of petty hawk fans who had similar reactions on twitter too. Too bad all around folks can't have a discussion about doing something good for kids without injecting that into it.

Not here to get in the middle of anything, just simply want to do what we can to help show some love for kids of both Hawkeye Fans and Cyclone fans. If you choose to participate tomorrow, great, if not let's hope we have plenty to cheer about as we dismantle KU.

Go State!

Did they work with ISU to get this announced over the PA? If they didn't there is no way this is going to happen through word of mouth. You'll have some pockets of people waving to the SE at the end of the first quarter and everyone else wondering what the hell those people are waving at.

Personally, it has nothing to do with the rivalry for me. I think it's a phony gesture to use as a media ploy to increase ticket sales and advertiser costs. I'd feel the same way if ISU did it.
