Mauer up as the tying run....could use some vintage Joe.

Nope.

This is like watching ISU. Just not quite good enough to overcome.

Too bad the Twins highest paid pitcher is on the shelf and will most likely not do much the next two contract years. This team will be awesome if they can get some starting pitching depth.
Hope Rogers can hold them down here. He's had a great year.

Congrats to the Twins on a record breaking season.
Hoping for an Indians sweep.

All in all, hell of a season and a treat to even get to watch game 163. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Would have loved to see a healthy Sano (who had been playing all season), Buxton not get hurt, and Santana start off hotter. Can't really ask for a better start than 3-0 with the Yankees ace leaving in the 1st. Their hitting is just too good for the Twins pitching right now.

The Twins aren't far off.

I'm really excited for the rest of the playoffs. So many possible World Series combinations that intrigue me.

There's definitely hope for the future. Like pretty much every other team in baseball, pitching is key. Another solid starter would be huge. Molly got as much out of this bullpen as he could, but it wasn't enough.

In the end, they ran into a hot-hitting team in New York last night. Cleveland is going to need good strong outings from its starting pitchers to keep the Yankees at bay early. Once they get some confidence, a three or four run lead is not safe with the amount of power they have in their lineup.

I seriously hate getting bounced by the Yankees. Camera shots of their fans don't help.

Twins have a decent core of young every day talent. I love Buxton, Rosario and Dozier-mix in Sano and an aging Mauer and that's a pretty good start.

Pitching has been a problem for years and continues to be. Need to go out and spend some more money there and I think they can compete

Obviously on paper Cleveland is the better team. The Indian's bullpen is even better ERA wise than the Yanks and you have seen how good the Yanks pen can be. Indians vs. Astros for the AL looks to be the safe bet.

Saw a video of the Yankees celebrating in the locker room......I was kind of shocked. They have a 200 million dollar payroll and have underachieved almost the past decade with that kind of money. They have 27 titles in their history...oh and they beat an injured Twins team.

I'm ok with them celebrating. That makes me feel like they were at least challenged. I'd feel worse if they treated it like they were leaving the office on a Tuesday.

I'm not as familiar with their roster this year as I have been in the past, but isn't a decent part of their roster made up from guys that came up through their farm system?* I tend to hate teams a little less if that's the case.

*If someone wants to correct me, I'm happy to go back to hating them as much as I used to,

I'll give you that. For awhile, their system seemed to me to wait until guys got good then buy them up.

FWIW, hard to hate a guy like Judge. I'm rooting for anyone that could potentially take down Bonds' records some day.

The core of their team is young and excited. Very dangerous team for the future.

Here's the starting lineup last night, more built from the farm and via some good trades:
  • Gardner, Yankee system
  • Judge, Yankee system
  • Sanchez, Yankee system
  • Gregorius, trade
  • Castro, trade
  • Bird, Yankee system
  • Hicks, trade
  • Ellsbury, free agent
  • Frazier, trade
  • Severino, Yankee system
The only other free agent to play for the Yanks last night was Chapman.

Will be interesting to see what they might do via freeagent but there isn't a lot of big holes to plug and the team got young. Maybe third base and a starting pitcher (that Japanese kid?). They will have money to spend IF they want with $65M coming off the books in 2018. Biggest chunk is A-rods $$$ and Sabathia's and Hollidays (Matt's at a more modest bargin level). I think the Yanks resign Sabathia at a lower annual salary, he has been quite good but his knee is a question, likely a one year deal like they did with Holiday. There has been a definite shift as seen when they had to eat A-Rods salary and didn't go full on to sign Cano and let him walk. The outlier being what they paid Chapman, they can still go big on occasion.
