CF/HN Podcast: Jon Miller on the CyHawk game

Right now, JStanz is trolling. I'll take the bait for one post and be done. I'm actually losing respect for JStanz this week. Chris explained his reasons: I haven't listed and won't, but he had reasons. JStanz is egging us all on. Not cool, Bro. From someone who doesn't make listening to your podcasts a priority, your aren't helping to change my mind in this thread.

Also, the front page of "What I admire about the uofi" isn't helping my attitude either. Did you all lose a bet where you have to run turncoat for a week?

I really appreciate trying something new with this podcast and I encourage it for this website going forward. But I have to say it was probably my least favorite I've listened to on here. I definitely think we should have a Hawkeye analyst on here for this game to update us on the opposition. Jon did very little of that. He was belittling and I could definitely tell he wanted to rile some people up. This might be good for clicks but it's bad for the quality of product at cyclone fanatic.

I agree with this. There surely has to be some Hawkeye personality that isn't just a troll. Maybe a former player? Or Keith Murphy?

So, when you say "listened to", do you actually know how many people push play, or is it just "downloaded'? I always thought that podcasters weren't concerned whether people were actually listening and just wanted/knew the down load numbers, because the software couldn't pull out actual "listens".

It's probably semantics, but I don't doubt that the downloads were up there with ISU fans already having it on auto - download and you then would see a spike in Iowa fans searching it out and casual ISU fans downloading more pods during ISU vs. Iowa week.

I would imagine it's also the vocal minority posting that it was awful and they turned it off or didn't listen, but just wondering if you can really know if a bunch of people didn't listen or turned it off. ...just curious?

Yes. We are capable of knowing whether or not people listen or just download.

Thanks for coming to the site. I will admit I was messing with people yesterday, but there's way too many people who have taken this podcat personally. It is a podcast. I still have no clue what I've done that will make people think I'm defending what Jon said. That is baffling to me. Just because I don't come in here cussing up a storm and professing my all out hate for Jon Miller does not mean I agree with a single word he said. If this offends you enough to make you not listen to a podcast I record, you wouldn't enjoy it anyway, but I'll say I bet I take as many or more subtle shots at Hawkeye commenters and fans than anyone in the market.

Glad this sparked some conversation.

I do think that Jon and I are on very different career paths and have different goals. I poke the bear once in a while (especially this week) but I'm in media full-time. It's how I feed my daughter.

Jon does this for fun now. He's moved on from the game - doesn't even live in the state anymore.

Hope that makes sense. Regardless, thanks for listening and for those who didn't care for it, we are obviously going to have much more of our regular CF-only podcasts later in the week.

He go into the business of developing a state of the art, game changing recruiting service/website?

Don't forget the lying also. Every other person in this thread is saying they didn't/won't listen to it and yet its one of the most downloaded podcasts ever. Hmmmmm...
Well this is the number one site for Iowa Hawkeye sports fans, not shocking that they would all listen to a Jon Miller podcast.

I can't understand why this site would want to give someone who certainly appears to dislike Iowa State any time on it

Any other Hawkeye pundit and I would listen. I'm disappointed that CF gave someone like Jon Miller a platform for his shtick.

The two teams are playing each other and the sites have a mutual sponsor that wanted a podcast. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.

I understand, Chris. You can be fully objective and make good points.

Miller trots out the same old, tired BS.

That's the difference.

Miller is a cheap shot troll who lives to tweak Cyclones fans. That's why. You could have picked a former Hawkeye or a Hawkeye fan that doesn't present himself as a braying jackass. But you brought in Jon Miller, knowing full well what his schtick is. And then you're surprised when some oversensitive CF members get worked up about it?

I disagree. Miller is not a troll. That is who he is and how many Hawkeye fans are. As has been mentioned, he is the perfect rep for the Walmart portion of the fanbase. This is not schtick. This is a tavern Hawk that grew up with Hayden Fry when Iowa was making a point to belittle ISU as a program. We still are a couple of generations away from these dorks not brainwashing their kids to call Iowa State "clowns".

You act like he had any choice, sounds like the sponsor called the shots here.
