Friday OT #2 - Untasted Waters

I've been on a kick lately where I'll try almost anything as long as it's somewhere that I know can cook it correctly. I think a lot of people get turned off by things like seafood because they had it somewhere that doesn't know how to properly prepare and cook it. I really can't think of anything I haven't tried besides a clone cone. I'd rather watch basketball than stand in line for 2 hours.

Lamb is delicious!

Only tried curry once and that was plenty for me. I've never had an energy drink, assuming coffee doesn't count.

Umm, Ramen, Siracha, I'll think of other things.

I had Lamb for the first time on a cruise and it was awesome. Veal always freaked me out a little and a couple years ago we went to an Italian restaurant in St. Louis and I got something other than the veal steak. My boss got that and was raving about it so I tried it and that was an eye opener. The best thing I've ever tasted.

As far as myself, I struggle to come up with something I haven't tried besides anchovies. I don't think I've ever tried sardines either.

I only tried oysters on the half shell for the first time a couple years ago. I thought they pretty much looked like snot.... and I still think that. However, they're pretty damned delicious. Throw some lemon, hot sauce, or mignonette on them? Really, really good.

I never tried too many foods growing up. In my adulthood, I've become much more willing to give things a shot, so there's not much I haven't at least tried.

You guys who are pooh-poohing seafood are nuts. Shrimp, clams, mussels, crab, lobster, fish, etc. It's all good stuff.

I was similar to you on veal. Never really had it. Never really had a desire to try it. Then I went out to dinner at this little, old school italian joint in Kansas City, where their special was veal saltimbocca. The waiter did a great job of selling me on it, and I gave it a go. Fantastic.

oooo, add anchovies to my list.

We tried lamb in Jamaica and then had it several more times in the UK. I definitely need to try making it at home some time. Haven't tried veal either, I suppose. Probably won't.

In Jamaica I see zero reason to eat anything but Jerk chicken from the guy moving around the resort with his grill. I think one night I took 3 trips to see him.

Nutella. Open the jar and look at it - now tell me, what does that look like???

Anchovies - 100% agree. They smell like hot armpits. And the funny part is that 99% of the references to pizza on TV or in the movies are to pizza with anchovies.

Guacamole - the smell is enough for me. My wife and daughters eat it by the quart, but that's OK. They can have all of mine.

And I'm with Janny, I'll eat just about anything from the ocean except calimari. It's a perception thing, but I can't get around it, sorry.

We were forced to eat everything growing up, and I'm pretty willing to try any food once. I don't think I've had sardines, but it's more because I haven't sought them out than anything.

I never paid for a clone cone, but I've eaten several when I used to work concessions at Hilton in '93-'94. Does anyone remember when clone cones made their first appearance? I swear I worked at a stand when they first came out, but I'm not sure if I'm creating a memory out of convenience.

I don't like things from the sea. I have tried some fish and things, but by far, there is a lot that I haven't tried.

I can do crab though.

No shrimp?

Lamb chops. Not once have I had them. They look good, but I just can't get myself to eat one.

Head cheese, and souse will never ever ever be tried by me.

A weird one now looking back is yogurt. I hadn't tried it until my mid 30's; now I love the stuff.

I'm with you on the lamb chops. We have a rule in our family. Cows, chickens, pigs, and shrimp are all firmly entrenched on the edible side of the food chart. But don't you dare touch that adorable little lamb! We don't even eat at places that serve gyros because of the rule.

Never had lobster either. Would like to try it, but not wanting to spend $40 for something I might not like.

Shrimp to me are just spiders from the water. Not interested at all. Same with those crabs, they look like something from another planet. I've tried crab legs, shrimp, several kinds of fish and not really impressed by any of it.

I'll take anyone's eggs, boiled, fried, deviled. My grandmother raised laying hens and sold them for supplemental farm income. I was raised on them.

Also add tripe and head cheese to the list of "No, not ever." list.

Shrimp is one of those foods that if you see how the sausage is made you may never eat it again. I still enjoy them..

Lamb chops are wonderful. A good lamp chop is in prime rib territory for me.

Considering my SO's family are Asian immigrants, I've been to meals where the most palatable thing was the fried chicken feet.

Escargot - just no.
Sushi. I have cleaned too many fish to want to eat it raw. Old office mate used to always want to go to fast food sushi for lunch. I just got a salad at the place in the next food stand.
