All Iowa Football Team

The post with the team I selected received 7 "Agree" ratings and 3 "Winner" ratings, The OP received 1 "Funny" rating for his team.

Big surprise, he cant be objective at all when looking at this.

So you don't agree with CyTwins when he is trying to do this preseason stuff? How you can you choose if no games have been played at all?

I don't know how else you'd do it other than a combination of proven results and a projection of what they're going to do this year. I do think that it's dumb that anyone would pick a player solely on how he does in one game. If Lazard burns Rugumba multiple times, yet Rugumba rebounds to be all big 10, he would have a place on this "fantasy" team.

OFFENSE

QB- Park, not even a question

RB- Wadley is best, but you'd want Montgomery in there a lot to keep Wadley fresh and alive.

WR- Lazard close over Vandy due to Vandy's injury, but the next 4 or 5 on the depth chart would all be Cyclones.

TE- Probably Fant with some experience, but Allen is much more athletic and homerun threat.

OL- Give me all Hawkeyes until ISU has an OL that shows it can push UNI around. Campos should be able to crack the All Iowa starting lineup, but with his injuries, I'm not sure about that.

DEFENSE

Interior DL- Give me both Hawks until Lima shows something.

DE- A. Nelson, Bailey

LBs- Harvey, and 2 Hawks

CBs- Peavy and Payne all day.

S- KCM and then a toss up between Taylor and Wilkerson

LOL at Allen being "much more athletic" than Noah Fant.

Why? I am expecting 5 wins.

I think that is a pretty good expectation. Which ones you have as the W's ?? I'd probably say 6-6. Here are the Ws I think:

UNI
Akron
Texas (yes I think they can take them at home prior to Herman ramping things up)
Kansas
Texas Tech
TCU

Then a bowl game.

Honestly haven't heard of any of Iowa's players outside the bigger names.

But, I don't think there's any way you can choose Montgomery over Wadley. Maybe by end of year you can make that argument, but at this point it's no question.

Vandenberg most definitely deserves to be No. 2 as well.

Yeah really most fans will not know who the players are in depth on other teams, other than the big names. From my limited ISU viewing from the last couple of years, here's all I know:
  • Park has talent. Can throw the football, see why he was highly regarded coming out of high school.
  • Lazard is good. Big, strong receiver with good-enough speed. May not be fast enough to make an impact in NFL, but plenty fast enough to be really good college player.
  • ISU's o-line got pushed around a lot last year. Couldn't tell you who any of the players are.
  • I like several of ISU's secondary players, they appear to be athletic and competitive/tough. Those usually make for good players.
Non-Iowa fans would probably/might know who Wadley and Jewell are, with random impressions that the o-line is good and the defensive front 7 is physical.

If it were a night game instead of 11am kick I would like ISU's chances at beating Iowa a little more. That one will hinge on turnovers and whose D line performs better. It wouldn't shock me if Iowa lost that one. Tough environment for a new QB, which is why I would suspect about 2/3 run and 1/3 pass. It definitely won't be like last year's game.

The last 2 kickoffs in Ames have been late afternoon/early evening and Iowa won both games.

The last 2 times ISU has beaten Iowa in Ames the kickoff was 11 AM.

And I still say what I stated. Rudock / Beathard were the starters in the two late day games. Both were great on the road in general (minus the Minnesota Gopher debacle in 2014). And I am sure without looking that JC QB'd one of those 11am losses. Pretty sure that was 2007 with the field goal fest and I can see why we lost that one. Was the triple OT game an 11am kick? Can't remember. But our defense sort of forgot to show up for that one. Believe Vandenberg was the QB for that game.

If I am whoever our starter will be at QB, I would prefer an 11am kick so not have to sit around all day thinking about it and hopefully have a less rowdy crowd.

Yes, the last 2 losses in Ames were in 2007 and 2011 both 11 AM kicks.

Cool thread idea. This will be fun to come back to at the midway point and end of the season. D-line will be the most fun to monitor. Agree with YeahBuddy for the most part. Potential that the 4 d-line "starters" will be 4 completely different guys by the end of the season.

I like Stanley. Limited observations obviously. He needs to slow down a bit and relax. Looks a bit jittery around huddle and at line. Experience probably fixes that but who knows in front of a hostile away crowd. Rob Howe just had an article about him working on his leadership skills, which again I think game experience with some success helps that out a lot. When both have limited game experience it is just hard to tell. I do believe that whoever it is will be broken in slowly with heavy reliance on the run and just enough passing to keep everyone honest on defense. Game 1 will tell a lot and also will tell a lot about Iowa's secondary because they will have to try to throw a lot on us. If that QB is as good as the experts state then he will provide a clearer indication how good the backfield is without King, Mabin and Gair (who took over for Taylor at the end of last year).

If I had to say right now I would say Stanley, but I am okay with either having little public observations to go upon.

I expect this team to be roughly half (or more) ISU by the end of the year, but agree with most of the iowa fan one posted earlier in the thread for now.

The toughest thing is I bet Iowa wins a close one this year, only because it's an early season game and our strength (DBs) doesn't match up with their strength (OL/Running). I can see it being like when you're playing NCAA and someone runs the same play over and over and over again. They aren't actually better, they're just exploiting one stupid play. That and I think ISU's drives will be so quick due to Park, AL and team. So I think our defense will get worn out by the end due to being on the field so much.

Hope I'm wrong.
