**2017 Cap City Thread**

Per the Cap City League twitter it looks
like Lewis went 0-7 from 3 tonight. Young 0-3. Saving it for when it matters.

I wonder if they're tired with team workouts starting.

Fun games tonight. All of the Iowa State guys played well.

Lindell was really, really fun to watch. You could tell he had never played with his team, but he looks the part. He had a couple of great dunks. He mixed it up on defense. I could not be more excited for both him and Lewis. It was also fun to see Monte there.

I managed to sprain my ankle walking up the bleachers tonight. It is pretty impressive that a spectator gets injured :)

Cameron Lard is far more skilled than i could have imagined..His energy rebounding and protecting the rim is going to be big for years to come. Kid is a Freshman and has body of a Junior. Understanding this is mostly against scrubs but still..Really like his game. Curious to see how good Brase is this year..We could have 3 very solid bigs this year + Talley.

I keep trying to fight my intuition on this, but can't help but think we're going to be sneaky good this year, especially as the year progresses. We don't have the post weakness we've had in recent years, have three solid guards (thinking Babb and JLong will fill in the third guard spot here), a lot of promise on the wing in Lewis/Babb/Talley/Beverly, and then a good looking rotation at the forward/center spots in Young/Lard/Brase and whoever flows over from the 3 spot. Give them some time to build chemistry and teamwork, and I see a lot of promise. Add in Shayok and Jacobsen pushing them in practice, and I just really like the look of this team on paper.

Hey Cade - Wigginton was certainly worth the trip, don't ya think?

Glad he actually played. My optimism for next year got kicked up a notch or two seeing what he brings to the table.

Good night of games

The first game with Solomon/Lewis and Jackson went about as expected in my book. At this point we kind of know what we are getting in Donovan and Solomon. Lewis looked a little cold at times but he has a smooth stroke and seems pretty fundamentally sound (coaches kid). I think I bought into the hype train a little too much on him beforehand. Not that I don't think he could be good but I see him more as a solid rotation guy this season who will see his minutes go up as the season goes on.

The second game however was worth the price of admission. I was impressed with all three players. Lard missed a lot of make-able layups IMO but his defense was phenomenal. Granted Lindell's team was real small but the shot blocking from him was effortless. He messed around and didn't really try in the dunk contest but in the warm-ups/ in the game he showed some real power. There has been a lot of talk about him gaining weight but he looked every bit the part of a big 12 big man.

Lindell was every bit as advertised. I thought he disappeared a bit in the second half but as many posters pointed out, Canada was basically hugging him the whole time, it was really bad and you could tell Lindell was not happy. His game was great all around but what obviously made him a top recruit was his athleticism. You could tell he knew people were there to watch him put on a show and he did. His blocks were pretty insane for someone who is 6' 3" and he elevates an unreal amount on his jumpers. Every time he did something good he'd stare back and jaw at Monte. His size is also pretty unreal for a freshman. When he was standing next to Monte he made him look tiny (granted he kind of is relatively speaking), but kind of like Solomon last year, the weight room is not a problem for him.

I could say a lot about Shayok but he is already my favorite player for next season. Super Marial is legit and IMO could be one of the best transfers we have had in the past ten years. Second half, he balled out and made some crazy layups look easy.

I'm thinking it may be like the 2004-2005 team. Pretty solid and hella fun to watch but maybe just not quite enough juice to be a tourney team.

Should be noted that one of those blocks was on Shayok, not some 5'9" kid from Monroe.

Thanks as always Cade.

Yeah, Cam gets up but he is also 6' 9". Lindell blocks are just impressive given how high he gets relative to his height. He isn't short (6' 3") but he has a bit of I don't give a **** how tall you are I am going to go jump or shoot over you attitude. Was pretty evident last night and in the team Canada highlights.
