Nope. isu fans are obsessed with Iowa. If not I wouldn't be posting.
Ames is a one size fit all, you come and park in a huge parking lot, everything is the same, everything is open, there is no shade, no character, it is all just so cookie cutter. It reminds me of every chain restaurant ever. One size fits all, the menus is the same across all restaurants, the decor, everything the same, same, same.
Iowa City is unique, fun and interesting. You have to find pockets to tailgate in. You find someone who rents their yard, you tailgate on a golf course, you tailgate outside the stadium. The experience is intertwined with the neighborhood and community. Iowa city tailgating is like a local restaurant where every experience is different and local and personable and fun and part of a community/neighbor that is unique and different from every other city/chain restaurant.
In the Ames cookie cutter tailgating, the only difference in everyones experience is distance away from the stadium. It is like eating at Applebee’s, and proclaiming it the best restaurant in the land. I’ll take Iowa City’s unique, fun and interesting tailgating like a local restaurant vs the cookie cutter chain restaurant every day.
I know I'm super late on this, but let's all just let this post sink in. Breathe it in deeply.
I've tailgated a ton in IC, so I'm well aware of the setup. I guess the thing I like least about IC is that everything is so spread out. I've parked at Finkbine, the alley by olive court, dental lot, west and north donor lots, and at houses on Koser. IMO what makes Ames so great is the proximity to the stadium and the fact that all of the lots are relatively close. I totally understand why you disagree though.
You do sacrifice some things in order To get a unique experience. Yes things are spread out. But I'd rather walk further and have a unique experience over just having things closer to me.
Cone fans are trying to say an efficient parking lot is the best tailgating experience. That is like saying the best place to eat is a mess hall (most effiecent) or chain restaurants (cheapest with blah food). Or the best house to buy is a track house (most efficient to build and best bang for the buck)
I totally agree, Ames tailgating is more efficient than Iowa City, but overall it lacks the charm and character that Iowa City offers.
Nothing says charm like tailgating in a parking ramp or a parking lot at a golf course a mile away from the stadium

Not my problem you dont have friends that are rich enough to park next to Kinnick.

I thought tailgating next to the stadium is a bad thing?
