Iowa Football Recruiting

That hurts

If Iowa ran a 3-7-1 he'd have a good chance of starting at LB for us.
If he's good enough to play over one of two junior linebackers (one with 137 career stops, the other with 82), a RS Fr that had offers from Wisky & WVU among others, and a pair of RS Sophomores (one of which Bill Snyder, and Mizzou wanted) then I'll just be confident that he can hold his own.

If he doesn't, then he won't play. That's the way I see it.

Too be fair, I think Lanning will hold his own. I think most of the negative feedback stems from Twins successful trolling of Mashup and others, in which he/she stated that stated Lanning was the the "overall better football player". I think Lanning is a very good athlete, albeit IMHO would have a very slim chance of cracking any of the LB two deeps at Iowa this season. Mostly due to the fact that he has ZERO experience playing LB at the collegiate level.

Oh I understand that it's just the usual troll in this thread (from both sides), but Gonzo can be reasonable (and even CyTwins can be reasonable outside of the ISR forum).

I don't have overly high expectations for Lanning at LB. There is no doubt in my mind though that he should have been there from the beginning, and it will be a difficult adjustment. Given that ISU plays a 4-2-5 against most teams, I'm confident they'll put the best two out there (which probably is Harvey and Northrup, though they both play WLB). Both have played a lot of football already (partially because ISU lost 4 LB's before last season, and it wasn't due to expiring eligibility).

I don't think the LB spot will be great, but shouldn't be an absolute liability like it has been the past few years.

I, for one, am worried about the linebacker position. I don't care who you are, if you haven't played defense since 8th grade you shouldn't be able to make the switch and be declared the starter two weeks in. That's a very bad sign. He will probably be serviceable at the mid-point of the season but I expect him to be out of position a lot early on.

This is exactly what I have been saying. It is a very bad sign, and I just don't get how some are spinning it to a positive?

Nebraska did for LB I know. Not sure who else. He had more TDs than Beathard last year and can still be a force on defense. No wonder Nebraska wanted him

People who evaluate college talent decided he was awesome enough to be drafted in the 3rd round. How much do you want to bet lanning would be me up the same way?

I really hope isu plays a 4-2-5 against the Hawks. Especially when we have 2 TE's in the game. It would be fun watching our OL take out the first 6 with no problem and then get Wadley in the open field against a corner or a safety. That always ends well for the opposition.

"With no problem."

There have been worse ISU defensive lines to stifle the Iowa running game.

Who is so good at LB for Iowa besides Jewell? Not trolling either
