Will Blalock

Oh man. The Virginia play. I was a freshman at the time - one of my first in person college games. I remember the play - the roar of the crowd built up really fast during that play. Just remember it was so surreal and a "can't believe that just happened..." Maybe it was just because I hadn't been in the student section of more than a few college games at that point, but it was amazing seeing that play in person.

There were a lot of pretty good plays that year and the following one. I still remember Stinson during the Texas Tech game at Hilton with his back to the basket put his arm above his head and no look passed to Damion Staple perfectly, for a dunk. First play of this video:

I think if that the officials in the game at Kansas that season had even half a clue as to what they were doing and we go on to win that game the way we should have we could have been on the right side of the bubble that year.

On that note, the officiating in a very close loss at Nebraska that season was also extremely suspect. Win those two games on the road in the Big 12 conference and I think it's certainly possible we're dancing.

Yeah, but the raw talent available shouldn't have been relying on officials for a couple of spots in the tournament.

I always felt Wayne Morgan was never given free reign to run the program as he wished. Yes, there were the alleged (and never proven) recruiting violations, but the man was able to guide a team that was supposedly going nowhere in his first season to the final four of the NIT. The next season was an NCAA visit. And then there was the third season where the stars of the team acted like they only needed to walk on the court in order to win: the result was missing the NCAA and the NIT, and a pack of wolves hollering for Morgan's head (and wanting him replaced with McDermott - a huge mistake). No, I don't blame Blaylock and Stinson for skipping their final season and going Pro. There was a bad vibe surrounding the program back then, and it only got worse when Greg McDermott arrived.
We all think our front court was bad this past season, but it was much much worse Morgans last year here. That is why we didn't play in any post season that year. It wasn't because our stars had big heads. It's because teams had their way with our 2-3 zone with a poor front court anchoring it. We got outrebounded several games by 15 or so and remember losing a lot of high scoring games with 90-80 type scores.

Click right on one of the pages of text and select open in a new tab. Open the tab and read it full size.

You would think they would have included a link to the actual page, wouldn't you. I tried their web address and there is just a splash page saying they are coming soon and wanting my information.

Don't blame the messenger. I simply embedded the tweet. To my knowledge it was posted to their Twitter and Facebook pages not to their website as it's not even running yet.

I didn't blame you. I blamed them for not posting a link to the actual page. Just putting what they did on Facebook/Twitter is clunky and difficult for people to read. And if they don't have their actual site up and running yet, they shouldn't put a link to it in all their facebook posts.

Sorry man, I misunderstood ya! I disagree though about links to the site, why wouldn't they want to gain email subscribers prior to their site launching? Seems like that'd be a good way to let interested people know when the site launches.

I remember hoping that teams would miss their first free throw and make the second so they wouldn't have a chance to get a rebound and put it in for two. I couldn't remember if that was one of Larry's last teams or Morgan's last team. But I'll take your world for it and go with Morgan. ...You know it's bad when you are hoping the other team makes a free throw just so you don't have to watch your team try to rebound.

.... high scoring games with 90-80 type scores.

I'm not disagreeing with our serious shorts that season, but I do remember many 90+ point games in the Orr era. I really do wish our Cyclones would get back to that now that we have a 3 point shot and a shot clock that is supposed to speed up the game.

Blalock was actually the one drafted between him/Stinson. Surprising looking back, considering Curtis is probably more well revered for his efforts. Not sure if he ever panned out in the pros but he got his shot

Is it safe to say these two were the ones who first brought the streetball mentality to Iowa State Basketball?

Did players ever complain about those jerseys? It seems like the wide shoulders would have bothered them while shooting. And the shirts were so baggy. Or was that a style decision like the baggy shorts?
