Lil Ferentz takes digs at ISU

Why do I see Fleck being the next Bo Polini?
If so then he needs to get a cat.

It's also a ******** quote. The only time Iowa State wasn't competitive in in-state recruiting was when they decided they weren't interested in doing it.

The key in this state isn't necessarily always getting the top guy, it's knowing the state well enough to find the guys other schools miss. With so many small schools with vastly uneven talent, it's really hard to scout this state which is why some of the very best players to come out of the state were either walk-ons or only received a scholarship offer from one school.

The paragraph right before the quote was talking about how Minnesota gained two commitments from prospects in Illinois that were being recruited by Iowa as well and how Fleck, who is a Chicago native is working very hard to go after one of Iowa's most reliable recruiting areas. The nod to Iowa State was nice and relevant to this board, but I was more interested in how Minnesota is hitting the recruiting trail.

Nonetheless, if you "overlook" or "underestimate" someone at the most closely watched high school in the state, that is pretty bad.

He's not a great example because he hasn't even gotten to his senior year yet. It's a bit too early to say whether he was under-rated, over-rated, or properly rated.

Your Iowa fans must be giant tools or not have a clue.

Anybody screaming for BF to be let go after 1 season is a moron.

Let me guess, your buddies also wanted KF fired after 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2014?

Do you seriously live in a Black and Gold kool-aid tunnel or something? You haven't heard Iowa fans screaming for KF's head on numerous occasions after several different seasons?

What if Iowa gets beat by ISU, doesn't make a bowl, and the offense looks terrible? Are you going to say right now that there won't be a LOT of Iowa fans either wanting Junior fired or at the very least saying.. "I told you we should have never hired Brian!!". C'mon... you're smarter than that.

you, of all people, talking about debbie downer Iowa fans is just so amazing.

Ennis Haywood, who led the Big 12 in rushing at Iowa State for two years went to Carter High School in Dallas. He was definitely under the radar and not highly recruited despite playing at one of the most scrutinized football programs in the nation. He simply played on such huge powerhouse teams behind other D1 RBs that he never got a chance to really shine.

I'm sure Texas, eATMe, Tech, Baylor, OU and OSU wondered how they let that one get away.

It was down this year, and I just think it is trending down. That happens with conferences they are down a few years, back up, etc.

This really bothers ISU fan for some reason, I have never experienced a fan base more tied to Conference Pride than ISU. Maybe it is because they never contribute to the conference strength, but man you guys sure like to tell everyone just how impossibly hard it is for ISU to win in the Big12.

The Big 12 was really bad last year. I don't see it getting any worse this season.

Ross from Dowling was the example given. I didn't think it was a good example, particularly because Scout had him at 3 stars.

And none of the high school recruits have gotten to their senior year yet. There may be somebody else at Dowling (or elsewhere) who will blow up in their senior and that would be a better example of someone who might be missed if the coaches aren't doing their due diligence in Iowa.

Hey Cycsk.... of topic, but where did you get that pic of Jack Trice Stadium and the lots full of tailgaters?

No doubt some Iowa fans will be saying that but there are uneducated, moronic fans in every fanbase.

I mean, go read some threads on the bball board from December and January and people are calling for Prohm to be canned.

You can't fix derp.

Ok, at least you can admit it, because earlier in this thread this morning you said "it would never happen, none of it."

I don't think it will be a large segment of the fanbase if Iowa struggles this season which is what you claimed. That is where I disagree.

Seriously? If Iowa is really bad this year offensively, which is isn't a stretch at all to believe with no Beathard or WRs, you don't think there will be a LARGE segment of Iowa fans calling for Brian's head?

A lot of Iowa fans were ticked off the day Brian was hired, and a lot of my Hawkeye friends still aren't happy about it. If they have a down year offensively, it could get ugly. Obviously KF isn't going to fire his own son after one year, but there will be a lot of fans screaming for that to happen, you can count on that.

Honest question though... could you ever see KF firing Junior? I don't. I see him retiring instead, and then Junior just moving on to a different job at another school. "The Plan" though is for Junior to take over as the next head coach, but he'd better succeed as OC before he even thinks of doing that.

IMO opinion, Brian needed to leave the program and be an OC at another program before you can just give him the keys to the car. Even ignoring his lack of OC or HC experience, how often does the "pass the torch" approach work out? Honestly, I like how this is all setting up.

CMC and staff have shown that they aren't afraid to recruit in B1G territory. That was a pretty significant tip of the cap in my opinion.

Pass the torch? That generally leads to it all going up in flames. ;)

How often does a P5 program hire an OC that has OC experience at other schools? It may be more common than it seems to me but arent they usually position coaches that are promoted to OC?

99% of Iowa fans would be OK with someone that has BF's resume becoming the OC if he had the last name Williams or Smith.

I agree with what you are saying but coaches also tend to move around and gain different experiences. Side note, most position coaches that are promoted from within aren't coaching for their dad either. IMO setting the table for your son to slide into your seat wreaks of disaster.

BF coached in New England under Belichick and O'Brien and then was the OL coach at Iowa for 5 seasons before becoming OC. That is plenty of experience to become on OC at the P5 level.

I would be thrilled if Brian Ferentz took over for KF in a few years.

Not after one year. If the offense sucks after year 3 it'll be both of their heads.
