There is a small amount of chatter that a commitment may not be coming today.
Dont interpret this as saying that ISU is no longer leading for Downing but the rumor is after his visit to Iowa earlier this week he may be wanting to let his recruitment play out a little longer.
I have no clue how true any of this is. If I had to bet on it, I would wager he verbals to ISU in the next 48 hours.
Just drawing a correlation that small running backs don't necessarily mean they are brittle. Sometimes smaller RBs don't get hurt cause they don't always fight for that extra yard and go down easy and also are shiftier and thus harder to lay a big hit on.
It is obvious they want him, he is only 1 of about 10 OL prospects that Iowa has offered. I still don't think Campbell wants him very badly as he is 1 of 50 offers with many of them being much higher ranked than Downing.
So Iowa wants him more than ISU and ISU will probably still get him. Ouch
I don't really know. You say ISU wants him really really badly. If that is the case I'm sure they want him more than Iowa does. Just tough to tell who a team really wants when they offer so many kids.
Going off offers it appears Iowa wants him much more than Iowa State. Whoever gets him is getting a stud I know that
If Iowa were to get him, I'd probably compare him to other early offer Iowa guys that Iowa has gotten lately. Like a Spencer Williams, Cole Banwart type.
Jenkins doesn't have a single P5 offer besides Iowa. Downing has Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri and Kansas State. Derp
Yeah a Jenkins is a good comparable. RIvals has Jenkins (5.6 to Downings 5.5) a bit higher, but they are close.
For those who disagreed with my assessment, Williams and Banwart are good players. Banwart already making a push on the two deeps as a RS Fr. As the backup to James Daniels. Have heard good things about Williams as well.
