Looking for black dirt for use around my yard. Wondering if anyone has a lead finding any in the Ames area for a reasonable price.
Thanks

If I remember right someone always used to advertise black dirt along Y Ave between 30 and north to Cameron School Road.

Try Conley's Trucking on Grand Avenue up by Ada Hayden Lake. They have piles of various types of dirt that they have hauled and stored.

nice work actually replying with info!

Google maps confirms looks legit:

I bought clay fill dirt from Conley's earlier this Spring. They have a small loader that put it right in my pickup. I think they also have clean top soil.

I know you can get top soil from Country Landscapes on far east Lincoln Way, but it will probably cost a little more. They have a big pile inside a barn so it stays dry.

I just dug up a bunch for a patio project. I will use some for backfilling and in other spots around the yard, but I have quite a bit extra. You can have it free if you are willing to come load it.

several posts and no one said drive to the country and dig some out of someones farm field. Seems like every couple years we see someone parked in a field entrance digging and see no reason why we take offense to this

I have drove by them 1000 times, completely forgot about them. I'll give them a call. Thanks!

I thinking this is code. He is looking for Joe.

No black dirt, but I'm the only person on Earth that knows where you can find white mud.
