Sitting on the patio on a gorgeous sunny day, myself and my son are involved in a rehash of the tournament game. At issue: Why did Prohm start out playing big ball not small ball. Michigan beat the crap out of PU by playing small.

What was CSP and staff's game plan? Why did they not follow the Michigan playbook from the outset?

One of us believes CSP is not being held appropriately accountable by iSu fans. And one of us, who isn't 'X's and 'O's smart, does not want to jump on CSP's back BEFORE understanding iSu's pregame strategy.

What was iSu's pregame plan? Thanks much.

First off, LOL. Second off, I'm not sure anyone on here can actually answer that question in earnest. I would write that game off to a poor start, and just Purdue being at a similar level of talent. I mean they won the Big10 so they couldn't have been terrible.

Burton would have been battling foul trouble all game if we started the game with him at center. I'm guessing their pregame plan was to go with the lineup that had just won the Big 12 tourney and played great the last month of the season.

What a painful way to spend a Saturday.

I think all fans know or admit that it wasn't our best half- by Prohm, Morris, everyone. Purdue had some good fortune, too.

Great second half though, with a chance to win at the end.

This seems like a stupid way to spend a Saturday.

But Prohm was asked about this multiple times. I especially remember it in the end of season article in the Ames Tribune. You and your son might try reading it. Knowing what I know about Prohm, I'm sure he blames himself for whatever happened. But smarter basketball minds than me (and you) talked about how it probably was the right move to start the game like they did. Going small at the beginning would have had its own set of problems.

Prohm said in a recent interview that one of his assistants watched the film, and told him it was as he had suspected--defensive assignments were missed and that was a big reason, including a lot in the first half.

Purdue was also able to sustain a fast pace for the whole first half and a bit of time in the 2nd, while vs. KU that pace lasted about the first 10 minutes.

Frustrating but A LOT of teams lose throughout the NCAA tournament. Like, almost all of them.

WAIT. You mean that only one team in the tournament doesn't lose?

Thing about that game we missed a lot of shots but I feel Prohm coached his butt off to get us back in the game. We then got up by Two and the Purdue kid comes down and hits a 3 we then we miss a 3 and turn the ball over the rest of the game. At some point you gotta tip your hat to the opponent and move on. Their kids hit the shots when they needed to and we didn't. I saw tremendous effort and everyone of our kids seemed heartbroken over it.

Just chalk it up to the fact that we didn't hit shots in the 1st half, and Purdue did. If that weren't the case, we win by double digits IMO because they were tiring big time in the 2nd half. Swanigan was gassed.
