I had enough stuff I wanted to take I to the concert with me this week that I couldn't fit everything into my pockets but didn't want to bring a purse. I used our daughter's running belt type "fanny pack". It is fairly flat but could wear it covered under my shirt. She will take it when she goes to DC this summer. We are debating on sending her with our good camera, if we do we will get a backpack camera case for her.

yeah I just took my purse in Montreal, but it'll probably be longer days in the cities plus the likelihood of rain is higher. DH is getting a better camera and it will be a bit bigger than the one we had. So we've got this packable backpack thing that he took to FL as a small beach bag that I think we might use.

Fanny pack for the cities?

well, I kinda lied. Not like a real backpack with structure and such. Either my purse or a small packable backpack for days it looks like rain or the city days we are going further away/need more documents and tickets on us.

Use a fanny pack all the time when I walk the dog. Don't really care if it makes me a nerd or what people think.

Also used to use it when I had lots of toddlers. You need stuff and the use of both hands.

I always worry about the passport in a different country. Son had a couple of grad student friends who had to leave the country and come back in for some reason for their student visas or whatever so they went to some Caribbean vacay spot to accomplish the job. They got mugged and the passports were in one of those stringy backpack things that the mugger just cut the strings. They had to go back to Russia to get new passports and missed a semester of school straightening things out.

Think we'll try to leave ours secured in the room most of the time. Plus I always save a copy of it to email/print off and put in a different portion of luggage. Photocopy probably won't get me on the plane but would likely make the process of getting something done at the Embassy much easier. Upper ups at work had passports and company laptops stolen one time while travelling. Sounds like it was a complete PITA trying to prove who they were to the UK embassy.

That is what I have done.

When we were at Disney my MIL got her and MrsWx fanny packs to wear. I quickly shot that down more based off of security then look but it certainly played a roll.

When I was in Rome the hotel requested our passports and locked them in their safe.

When I was in the UK they never even asked once I left customs

The Russian students got mugged on the way to the airport looking for a cab. If it had happened this year, they could probably just call up a comrade in DC and been gold lol.

Buy a pair of baseball compression shorts. They have the cup sleeve in them. Just keep your cash and iD in there.
I'm shopping for compression shorts for the son for baseball right now. Maybe I'll pick up a spare pair for myself. Of course, I'd probably just fill the front sleeve with a sock or cucumber instead of important papers.

So what is the purpose of compression shorts besides just tight underwear?

My kids only wear compression shorts under basketball shorts and lifeguarding trunks. Not sure the purpose. Just know it's another thing to buy.

They should be more comfortable than a jock strap under basketball shorts and also more comfortable than the netting in old school men's swim trunks or the alternative of a speedo.
