***Official 2017 Transfer Thread***

With as little as we're hearing from the player side we're likely casting a very small net. Hopefully they hit on the few that they do go after.

Transfer recruiting is a lot different than prep recruiting. You're not getting the early jump via relentless and deft evaluation. It's almost all about relationships. Imo if it's tough to make out the connection to the transfer we're not likely to have a good chance. It doesn't seem like many quality guys available have connections to the staff. Then again, with what we lose we do have a ton to sell, and competent recruiters should at least land some visits from grad transfers and redshirting guys.

Yeah, transfers have been through the process and know better what they want and don't want, and have an idea of where they would fit. It's also a lot about trust, and I like Coach Prohm's chances in a contest of character and sincerity.

They're 2 years apart and their hometowns are 260 miles from each other. By your logic should a basketball player from Cedar Rapids know all basketball players from Council Bluffs?

I hope Shayok does visit but I don't think there's any connection there other than our coaches started following him on twitter last week.

yes the top players from Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids would know each other pretty well.

More and more I'm not sure that character and sincerity is really what most high level transfers are looking for.

I would like to believe that is what they're after, but I don't see it very often.

Not all. A lot see the name on the jersey and little else, but there's some of the more mature guys out there, and that will be enough.

KJ: 6-7 wing 12.3 ppg 8.1 rpg 2.8 apg
Sit 1 play 3

Dedric: 6-9 wing 19.2 ppg 9.9 rpg 3.3 apg
Sit 1 play 2.

Both are from Memphis, TN

KJ is sit 1 play 2 as well. He's actually the older brother. Dedrick classed up.

You do realize that guys at that level play AAU ball together for years? Do you think all the Iowa kids that play for the Barnstormers don't know each other? There are kids from around the state.

Alright well when Marial commits to ISU and cites his relationship with Naz as a key reason I'll gladly eat crow.

I doubt it's a great connection, not one that wins you a commitment. But it's enough to gain you a chance to recruit him, given what we know about transfer recruiting from around the country the past several years. Even a close mutual connection is often good enough.

With a new staff that came from lower levels and mostly spent their careers at low majors (except for Hobbs) we don't have the advantage of previously recruiting the better transfers.
