On to Football Season

5 is low? I mean I had a Hawkeye fan tell me Kansas State isn't one of the better teams in the conference and they are going to be a preseason top 25 team. I've been convinced the Big 12 is going to be loaded this upcoming year if that is the case

ISU is returning a ton, have a veteran QB with a big arm, one of the best WR corps in the conference and a lot easier schedule than year's past, but yet ISU fans aren't expecting a bowl game?

We've won 3,2,3,3 games the past 4 years. I would say "expecting" 6 wins would be a stretch. And will have a tough stretch of games late.

Starting QB, RBs, WRs, OL. Don't know much about what they are returning on defense, but their Offense should be legit I would expect.

OL is a question mark, thank the Lord we have Manning. Defense and special teams are a concern for me plus the Big 12 will be much better this year

Iowa goes 11-1 in the regular season - only loss is to Iowa State
Iowa Loses to OSU 14-13 in the B1G Championship on a last second Touchdown
Iowa loses to someone in the Outback Bowl by a score of 63-13

ISU goes 6-6
ISU beats Colorado in the Cactus Bowl

You think Iowa would be in the Outback Bowl with an 11-2 record and 9-0 B1G record?

Just because your football program has never been relevant outside of Central Iowa, you really should have a better understanding of how the bowl system works.

Production should be pretty good if the O-Line can deliver, but that's a big "if". Hoping for the best here; if we start out near the level where we ended last season, we will be looking pretty good.

Defense is questionable, still transitioning to a new system along with more limited talent. DBs in particular were a very large recruiting target, so hopefully a few of them pan out quickly. DL should be good if the JUCOs live up to hype. LBs will likely be the weakest spot, which is common to us the past few years.

Special teams is a huge question mark, I have no idea where we are going to be here.

Orange bowl maybe? Same score, though.

Gotcha...thanks for the rundown. I guess looking at your schedule and knowing some of the pieces you have coming back that six wins would be a realistic possibility.

You realize ISU started 4 seniors on the OL last year right?

I don't think 6 wins is impossible, but I think it's a little optimistic... It's doable if some things swing our way. The split for "good year/bad year" is probably at 4.5 wins the way I see it.

Uh....there will probably be 3 guys who haven't started more than 1 game for ISU on the OL who start....
Yep, we are going to have to get a line with little experience whipped into shape real fast. If or when that happens, our offense should pretty much be complete at that point, though.

How does ISU's schedule become much easier? We always have the same 10 teams and usually have UNI, which means we geneally only have 1 team that changes. We are not like Iowa.

It'll be harder than last year and last year we still had the 32nd toughest SOS in the country

This is kind of perplexing...you're doing what Iowa fans generally do about Iowa every year, but saying it about ISU, in trying to argue with ISU fans that are trying to temper your own expectations for a program that's had one winning season in a decade.

Just looking at their schedule for the first time and reading here about raising the standards and such.

UNI - W
Iowa - L
Akron - W
Texas - W
OK - L
KU - W
TT - W
TCU - Tossup
WVU - L
OK St. - L
Baylor - Tossup
KSU - L

Six wins are very achievable I think.
