We gave up Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris for Manny? We got a steal there as long as Manny decides to play ball. I love this deal for the Dodgers! Go BLUE!

Great, just great. We traded away one of the only players that people can name. What do we get? Minor leaguers. Why do I even care anymore. This is the exact reason why I can't follow baseball anymore. Trade away players for prospects.

That's a huge OF for Manny to roam in LA... no DH to hide him in. The Dodgers OF is already pretty full, and Andruw Jones just became the most expensive pinch hitter in the majors.
Should be interesting with the DBacks going to LA this weekend for a battle for 1st place on the line.

I'm a huge Dodgers fan too, but how is this going to work? I know we need a big bat, but we've got Kemp, Ethier, Jones, and Pierre already in the OF. Just picked up Blake at 3rd. Who's going to sit?
I hear we're also considering Vizquel at SS. Are we going to try to trade one or more of those guys off for him?

Torre has said Jones is our 4th OF as of this week. He's been a bust so now the Dodgers have to take their medicine and keep him on the bench. I assume Pierre/Kemp/Ethier will rotate between the other two OF positions. I hope to see a Manny/Kemp/Ethier outfield for the time being.
Then what happens at the top of the order? Furcal is already out, likely for the season. Pierre is our best speed guy and has had a very good season, lots of SB's and a high OBP. I know Kemp & Ethier are fast, but Kemp has made enough base running blunders this season to last a career.
It's going to be hard for the young guys to get in a groove sharing time. You almost have to DFA Jones and eat your multi-million dollar mistake.
Of course the Pirates got prospects. Teams in a pennant race aren't going to trade pivotal players on their 25 man roster at the deadline.
I think the Pirates got a pretty good return.
Kemp has actually done a decent job as of late in the leadoff spot. He's still a little rough around the edges, but he's showing a lot of patience at the plate now. We do lack a true leadoff hitter without Pierre in the lineup, I do agree there.
I love it, No more Manny in the Stadium, no more pitching to Big Pappi, no more talk on ESPN of Manny being Manny when they play the Yankees.

For the most part, MR has better offensive numbers all the way around than all the other infielders, particulalry OBP and SLG. MK is close.

Jones has been a bust - no question. I was hoping after the surgery he'd return to form, but no such luck and Torre has essentially benched him.
Kemp is on a 16 game hitting streak. I'm going to be very curious to see how this plays out and what Torre does. Just in time for the series with the D-Backs, and the Dodger's playing their best ball of the year.
I'm not expecting them to get an All-Star. I jut tired of seeing the face, or one of the faces, of the team get traded time and time again.
Don't kid yourself. If these prospects turn out to be any good then they will be traded down the road. Probably for more prospects. It's a cycle.

Probably wouldn't have happened if they had insisted on one of those two. LA, up to this point, has been adament about keeping that core of young players. The young position players are a dynasty in the making.
Except now I'm wondering if they're willing to give somebody up to bring in a SS given the recent moves. That's all that's missing and Nomar is hurt yet again. He was filling in there nicely.
An unbelievable injury year for LA. If these guys start coming back with what's been added, this team is a legitimate contender, 0.500 record notwithstanding.
