Why do we have the 15 year removed rule to retire jerseys in Hilton? Do all other schools have this? I know Brandon Rush just got his number retired at Kansas and he played in 2008. I hate that we wait so long.... we all know Georges and Monte are going to be up there. Do we really need to wait until 2032 to see Morris hang from the rafters?

Georges and Monte will be in the rafters within a few years. There's no logical reason to keep them waiting for 5, 10 years.

I think the 15 year removed rule is just for the hall of fame

...yeah, Fizer was intro'd at the TCU game in 2015. Would make sense...Tinsley last year.

I think Fred had his number retired a season or two after he graduated.

IMO it needs to happen fast...wonder if it effects potential high-caliber recruits to see recent former players' numbers up there so they know the school loves its basketball program.

Are we sure about the 15 years?

Maybe this is a new thing? Hoiberg had his jersey retired only three years after graduation.

It sounds like something a bunch of old duffers would put into place to make sure that we don't demand that they add people willy nilly and lessen the prestige of it, but dammit, sometimes guys just need to be honored and it's clear as day that they do. This is the case with both Georges and Monte (I'd love to see Melvin honored in that way too, but that one will take more time I think, if it happens).

It shouldn't be so damn exclusive that recruits coming in weren't even born when anyone up there played.

Yeah, during this six year unprecedented run in Iowa State men's bball history, I agree with you that those two should go up pretty quickly. I'm also leaning toward including Ejim in the rafters, but I imagine that one will garner more debate. It is a close call, but he was an exceptional Cyclone, too. It will always be sweet to see these guys come back for a game and get the standing ovations and cheers. That's one of the great things I love about our fans, we honor and appreciate the success past teams and players accomplished.

15 years removed makes no sense. None of those kids attending the game will know who Niang and Morris are in 2032. Come on fuddy duddies, stop being lame.

15 seems too long. I don't mind 5 or so, because I see the benefit in a "cooling down period" to look at these honors less emotionally, but 15 is too long.

I'm pretty ambivalent on a 15 year minimum but I really doubt any recruit cares.

I just don't get the point of waiting at all. I mean, why not honor them now instead of later?

Also, we need something besides just the jerseys in the rafters. I mean, why not recognize more greats around Hilton? They love to talk about the tradition of "Hilton Magic" but we don't have a "Wall of Fame" for big time contributors?

Take a guy like Big Vic or Craig Brackins. They deserve to be recognized for their contributions, even if it isn't their names high above the court.
