Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

Iowa is the epitome of an average basketball team under Fran.

-If you take out his first year they are 57-48(54%) in Big Ten

-They are 8th, and 1 game behind Purdue for 7th out of 14 teams during that time period

-This year they are 15-13(7-8), assuming a zero sum game for all division 1 teams, thats 2 games above average

-They are currently 8th in Big Ten out of 14

-They have been to 2 NIT's, 2 NCAA's, and 1 Play in Game, thats 5 post-seasons in 7 years

-Their RPI is around 110 out of how many teams 360?

I dont know how you can get any more average than that when describing a basketball program.

No you said Iowa was average this year

Yeah, alot dumber than Wadley sucks, the Big 10 sucks at defense, the SEC is alot better than the Big 10 in basketball, if only I hadnt said such ridiculous things like that.

This is a basketball thread, talk football in the football threads. Nothing has been dumber than the Texas is pathetic and Iowa is average this year comment

Because they are, do you know what average even means?

I do stats for a living so you are out of your league on this one. An RPI of 110 when there are 347 Division 1 basketball teams is actually above average by about 60 spots but Ill give you the benefit of the doubt here and call them average instead of a little above like they actually are.

So how is Texas pathetic and Iowa is average?

Because Iowa is 50 spots higher than Texas right now and a team like us should take care of business against a team ranked 162. So if we had lost to Toledo or Liberty you wouldnt call those teams pathetic?

They are ranked right behind Texas.

That's a lot of Power 5 teams! Shouldn't average for a Power 5 team be the RPI ranking in relation to the number of Power 5 teams?. We pretty much all know that RPI 150-347 is probably all directional schools/small conferences. Why would you take those into account?

Nope, not at all, the Big East isnt a Power 5 conference, yet they are ranked 3rd in RPI, you have to take stuff like that into consideration also.

Just because a team plays in a Power 5 conference doesnt mean they are better than other teams that play in conferences not deemed "Power 5", this isnt football.

But Texas would be favored against Iowa. Sagarin and KenPom both have Texas better than Iowa so how is it possible Iowa is average but Texas is "pathetic"?

I seriously doubt the teams from 170 down are considered average basketball teams by the general population. Would you call Washington State an average basketball team? they are 4 games under .500 and at 155 RPI. UC-Irvine 156, Tennessee State 157.

Not at all, and I completely agree with you, thats why I said in my post Iowa is average even though statistically speaking they are 60 spots above average, which nobody on here is dumb enough to believe that.

Why is an RPI ranking the only metric or stat ever taken into account when arguing whether someone is good, average, bad, or whatever?

Omg dude, are we seriously having this conversation on a hypothetical on who would win between Iowa and Texas if they played in New York? This is out of control.

So take Big12, SEC, Big10, Pac12, ACC, BigEast, and (maybe) the AAC. How many schools is that and where would Iowa rank in there?
