Out of curiosity I looked at last year's NIT field to get a feel where P5 cutoff is. http://bracketmatrix.com/nit
It appears that since the NCAA runs the NIT now, a P5 school probably needs to be in top 100 RPI and be at least 3-4 games over .500 for strong consideration. 16-15 teams probably won't get in anymore. Relating that to Iowa, assuming they lose their two road games, end of regular season is 16-15 so they need to win at least 3 games in BIG 10 tourney for a solid NIT bid. No P5 team played in the CBI or CIT last year.
