I think it's interesting but unsurprising that Kansas, last in football, is currently atop the basketball standings. Meanwhile, our two best football teams in OU and OSU haven't won a roundball game in conference yet and may not for a while. What an odd swing in fortunes between the top and bottom of the conference in both sports. All-in-all, West Virginians have to be pretty happy as well with their year so far.

Most interesting from a conference viewpoint is how bad Texas is presently. Horrible in both major sports. Lost at home to the Frogs last night.

The Oklahoma schools don't give jack about hoops. Did you notice how many seats were occupied in Mr. Iba's gym last night? Winning there is almost akin to a neutral site victory.

WVU has proven to be a solid addition to the league, athletically.

I could not believe how many lower tier seats were visibly unoccupied last night

Building huge gyms is a mistake. Basketball is greatest in old time arenas. GIA used to be one hot spot for hoops, albeit they used to be good as well. I understand the two go together. But what they did down there was just stupid. The place hasn't been near full even when they had Marcus Smart.

Easy to call it stupid now, but 17 years ago it wasn't. And for the first 6-7 years after renovations, that place was consistently packed.

False. The place holds almost 14,000. It's never been close to capacity. It went from a competitive advantage to a snoozer.

You are wrong. Eddie Sutton was there till the beginning of the 2005-06 season. They were still filling the place up till the 2006 season. They had no issues getting people there when he was still around.

Attendance isnt down due to upgrading their arena. It's down because they waiting too long to fire their terrible coach and fans got pissed that their desire to axe Ford went unanswered for so long.

And getting a pro team in Oklahoma.

The one that always gets me is the variation between KU men's basketball and KU women's basketball. How can one be perennially great and the other perennially horrible?

Ku's new WBB coach isn't showing much to this point in time. In his second year, their gals are 0'fer in conference play.
