Michael Jacobson/Waukee - did we recruit this kid?

He scored 4, grabbed 9 boards and had 4 fouls last night.

That is about 2 points, 3 boards more and 1 less foul than Holden would have had :)

I don't think he's very good right now. Maybe he will be but not anyone I would say we missed out on

Sounds like the kid is only a Sophomore - and a 41" Vertical ?@#? Not too shabby

".....Jacobson, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound sophomore forward, scored the highest of any Nebraska men’s basketball player during last week’s Athletic Performance Index testing at the Hendricks Training Complex.......
....
also had the team’s highest standing vertical jump of 34 inches and the second-best time in the pro-agility run. Watson had an approach vertical jump (with steps) of 41 ½ inches, best on the team.

Jacobson improved his bench press from 235 pounds to 275 pounds and also did 18 reps of 185 pounds...."

That kind of body transformation in one year is either crazy impressive or shady af.

I'm not sure how good he is but his averages are nearly career totals of the bigs we took in his class. You guys wouldn't take him over Carter or Ernst?

I've always found it bizarre that the largest population area in the state produces essentially zero DI talent. and then I see a 6'9 240 lb iowa kid with a 40 in vertical dive on the floor for a loose ball and grab 9 rebounds against Indiana and think, hey, probably always worth a shot on a kid like that.

Over the years, there are a lot of these guys in Iowa and they're somewhat of a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing.

They're 6'8-plus and reasonable athletic. Typically good fundamentally and good guys to have on your team. But Iowa/ISU either offer them and they sit on the bench for most of their careers or don't offer them and they go to UNI, Creighton or wherever and are 3 year starters you have second thoughts about.

If this staff was "always giving shots to kids like that" out of waukee, this message board would explode after year 3. Not saying he isn't a good player, but because there has been one does not mean it is probably Always worth shot on kids.

Central Iowa seems to have been down for a few years.

Let's face it, we're not getting anyone good instate that isn't from Ames/DSM.

Unfortunately it seems like anyone outside of a 45 mile radius of Central Iowa is born into a Hawkeye family.

Ernst is gone. Carter is buried on the depth chart. So being better than those two is not really a big deal.

IMO, Solomon Young is the future. Holden and Bowie get playing time as Solomon Young develops. IMO, Bowie has more potential than Holden. But both are just adequate at best. And we do not know about Lard at this point either.

So I really am not concerned about losing this guy to Nebraska.

Jacobsen was a solid CIML guy, but you never got the feeling he was power 5 good, it was more like "he could develop into a solid guy in the Missouri Valley"

Our team played against Seth Tuttle in high school and while he was very good, we never thought he has division 1 talent. He proved us wrong by being a second team all american.

I'm just saying you never know...

i'm not saying we have to have iowa kids, i've never been in that camp.

but we're in our second year of having basically no size (compared to top25 teams) and when there's a kid from waukee who's playing D1, seems like we should think about those kind of kids in the future.

at least there's some future potential for upside. not going to get that from the bowies and holdens of the world. those guys are as good/average as they're going to get.

What I found unique about that transformation was that he also had foot surgery in the summer, to me that means it was a little to fast for the body to take and resulted in injury. Even then his stats didnt improve much from one season to another so really all the way around getting that big wasnt a great idea and often times isnt in basketball for most frames.

He's also playing on a terrible Nebraska team and really isn't doing that well for them anyways. We wanted him for football but didn't think he was good enough for basketball
