Baylor hired away Temple's coach.

In four years at Temple he went 2-10, 6-6, 10-4, and now 10-3 with an American Conference championship. Impressive.

Going to have move quick, they will be down to 50ish scholarship players before transfer leave.

Going to be a James Franklin rebuilding process in Waco.

Goodness, what a turnaround. I pray that we can have that sort of success here, except for the fact that our coach gets poached after 3 or 4 years.

I think the Baylor turnaround will be even more difficult than Penn St. You can't even compare the football tradition between the two schools. Sure, Penn St had some bad years but their fans stuck it out. I don't see that happening in Waco, in fact I fully expect to see a shiny new tarp in the next year or two.

They must've ran out of options quick. Baylor said they wanted someone with Texas connections and they got a guy that has never coached in texas and is from the Penn st area.

Shame because I actually like Rhule. Now his career is going down the toilet.

Not sure how this is different than coach Campbell pick by ISU. Both are proven winners. Both are young. Both highly regarded. Rhule has a different set of circumstances but also some obvious advantages being in Texas.

I wonder how many people said that when Campbell came to Iowa State?

at least Campbell was going to a midwesternish school.

I wouldn't put what Iowa State is going through vs Baylor is going through. Iowa State you need to build up, you have a fan base that isn't expecting much for 3 years, and you have a loyal fan base.

Baylor you got a fan base that wants to win right now, baylor fans.com is throwing this guy under bus saying that they will suck again now, and waco is very far from the northeast.

I would also throw in Baylor needs to come down before they can climb back up. What worries me is Rhule might have an ok season next year like 5-7 but if he goes 2-10 the following year he may get fired. That's why I wouldn't take the job. Plus Rhule was seen as the coach in waiting for the Penn St job.

I am not saying that or comparing the hires, just making a statement.

I have not seen a defensive, Big Ten-type style like is his MO and background work in the Big 12. Eventually all defensive coaches figure out they need to outscore people, and if they can't, they disappear. Charlie Strong is a really good coach and recruiter who couldn't win in this league. There will be culture shock in Baylor with they types of players he recruits and the style he recruits to being as big of a change as they could make. He is also known as a disciplinarian. I find it unlikely that the tone-deaf administration and donor base at Baylor will give him enough leash to fully get his program in. In any case, Herman's recruiting just got better by not competing with Baylor for the same guys. Rhule will not swim in those waters. Seems like a square peg in a round hole to me.
