Iowa Basketball Recruiting

Honest question, what is the obsession with Bohannon around here? He's a true freshman who won't see many minutes come conference time.

It's nothing personal. He's just the embodiment of "the right way" recruiting strategy that we've heard about since Fran came to Iowa. We're ridiculed by Iowa fans for not having more in-state guys on the team. But when you take in-state recruits, you get Jordan Bohannon.

He won't see many minutes? Is Williams going to play 34+ minutes every night? That should scare Iowa fans. How is it possible for a P5 program with three-ish straight NCAA tournament appearances to not have a PG on the roster?

I think the big thing was there were a few Hawkeye fans who were trying to talk up Bohannan as a solid PG option, and wouldn't change their minds. ISU fans have been preaching that he isn't a P5 level player, especially as a Frosh, maybe ever, and Iowa fans wouldn't budge on their take that he was going to be a solid player for them.

Yeah but the BTN announcers last night said that Baer is the type of player everyone wants on their team o_O
Did they really say that? I imagine they did. Scary.

I suppose they're right. Everybody wants that type of player on their team but as a Tyler Ellerman-type guy. Somebody that hustles and makes the starting big guys work for their points in practice.

Good guy to have on the team? Absolutely.
Good guy to have starting on a Power 5 team? I think we know the answer to that.

The BTN guys were just slobbering over Baer.

I think people are too hard on Baer. Should he be starting this year? No. But he is better than people give him credit for. He does a little bit of everything.
I'd rather have a guy who can do 2 things exceptionally well, rather than doing all things mediocre. :) but tbh, I think Baer is a bit better than we probably give him credit for, but the BTN and EIU fans gives him way too much credit.

No, it's not. Monte didn't light it up in his first game against real competition, but he definitely held his own. A major difference of course being that his first big game came against a 7th ranked Michigan, which was full of NBA talent. Bohannon on the other hand just got his **** tossed by some garbage Seton Hall outfit.

Your desire to be seen as 'the voice of reason' is a little ridiculous. Tone the hyperbole down and you might sneak by with it.

His first game against real competition was BYU. We can agree to disagree.

Excellent

A couple things as I've caught up on this thread this morning. Those referring to turnovers as Bohannons are doing god's work.

I hope Fran keeps going to the bench this way against us. Even just getting a few of those guys minutes will provide us with so many opportunities to create mismatches. I'm giddy just thinking about it.

That is definitely true.

Iowa could end up with 5 losses in the non con.

Looking over their schedule, I see them winning 17-19 games with 5 losses coming in the non-con (SH, Virginia, UNI, ISU, ND). Granted, those 5 losses wouldn't fall into the bad category, but they still count as losses.

Dang son this is some delusional thinking here. Seton Hall will be in the NCAA tournament just like last season. How exactly did Iowa play out of their mind last season?

They'll be an NIT team.

And Uthoff scoring 30 in a half was a normal thing?

My bad. For some reason I am misremembering that. In his first two games against real competition he was 1-7 from the floor and was a liability with the ball in his hands. Actually kind of making my point for me.

As for seton hall I bet they are in the tourney. Anybody who calls them Garbage is flat wrong, and we won't agree, they are 35 in both kenpom and sagarin.
