Notre Dame will wait until the playoff does expand. They have no reason to join the Big Ten. And it is not the NCAA that has set the rules for the CFP. It has been the P5 conference mainly. So they will still make sure Notre Dame has an opportunity to make the playoff as an independent just like they always have in the Bowl Alliance, BCS and current CFP. Notre Dame has never been forced to join a conference and nothing (other than wishes of fans and sports writers) has changed that would cause them to do so.

Georgia Tech and UNC would be my guesses. Northern Virginia, where most of the population is, already gets BTN thanks to Maryland. GT adds Atlanta.
 
The only way ISU gets into the Big10 is if its in some combo with other schools and we are needed to fill out an odd number. For example, if they invite Kansas, Okie, and Texas, and need a fourth, ISU is probably on the top of all remaining choices if the SEC / ACC are locked up. (Assuming West Virgina gets the nod to the ACC)

Also, all this talk about Iowa not wanting ISU is not true. On that leaked tape from Gordon Gee from when he was at Ohio State, he made mention that the Iowa president was under tremendous pressure to get ISU into the Big10. Sounds like they got their marching orders from the regents.

The problem is that Iowa has as much say in the B1G's internal workings as Iowa State does in the Big 12's.

Exactly.

BUT when I hear that "The Hawkeyes will never allow Iowa State to be in the Big10" is pretty much an untrue rumor given the evidence otherwise.

As the Big 12 brass sees A&M and Nebraska leave -- with their 85k-95k seat stadium venues, and Bowlsby looking at dogs like Colorado St, Memphis , UCF, and other old WAC and conference USA as replacements????

Be careful what you wish for. You want TEXAS and OU to bail? Then keep entertaining these leftover 3rd tier FB schools

There are worse things in the world. We'd get to keep some historic rivals and might actually win some games. This is essentially the Big East plus Big 12. We can make that conference work IF we have too

Worst case scenario, we go back to our 2010 Big East merger plan that'd look similar to this. Football would actually win more and basketball would be insane. That might be a 8 bid league yearly for the NCAA tournament.

Might be less money in theory, but until it's bidded on, you never know. Netflix or a new market might pay up for a best of the rest conference

Why is Pitt more attractive than ISU?

Everyone rips people for saying ISU to the Big 10 yet they put teams in the conference that not realistic.

Its not about getting on cable anymore. That was the goal 5 years ago. The next step is streaming subscriptions. Again GT and UNC just signed a new GOR, they are not leaving the ACC.

It can't happen for the next 20 years. ACC schools and ND extended their GOR until 2036 when they announced the ACC TV Network with ESPN.

There has been speculation of a possible loophole to the ACC GOR if ESPN doesn't launch a linear ACC Network by 2019.
 
Very telling that the ACC extended and the B12 isn't. It's been decided which of the P5 conferences won't make it.

I guess it makes sense that the one that is most central to the other 4 is the one that will be raided down the road.

I'm now going to root for Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and Memphis from here out since they will be our league mates in a few years.
 
Thought-experiment time, seeking feedback from those whose grasp of realignment reality is better than mine. Suppose there's no new GOR and no expansion at this time. How likely is it that only one of UT or OU would bolt at the end of current agreement, and not both? Would one school find it lucrative to be Big 12 kingpin if the other goes elsewhere?

I know many factors come into play that we can't predict — expansion to 8-team playoff, unexpected shakeups/expansions in other leagues, and so on. Just curious.

Just off the top, the value of the conference would seem to be diminished quite a lot in that scenario. If one goes, and one stays, who else goes also.

Expanding the playoffs is a huge variable that could affect the Big12 tremendously. If there is an 8 team playoff then I think the possibility of UT and OU staying increases. But one will not stay without the other. ESPN is already doing what they can to show the Big12 as a lesser conference. If one of those two leave, it'll be tough for the other to keep the conference relevant.

Pac 12 has not extended either, so don't lump them in with SEC, ACC and Big Ten
