Troy Davis Booked for Public Intox

Well they were cruising the lots pretty hard and everyone was handing them drinks. Probably should have had a wing man to get them back to where they were staying. Too bad.

Sorry, but this is stupid. The charge that is. If he was really that drunk, just give him a cab to his hotel or maybe make him go to the hospital. Esp considering context of the situation.

This. Need more context as to what happened here, but if he wasn't falling over drunk and walking into traffic causing a danger to himself and others, the cops should have just called him a cab and gotten him back to his hotel or wherever. Ames cops being oblivious as always.

This is the most absrud law on the books. Most other midwest states don't have it. We already have disorderly conduct on the books, so if someone is causing issues you have a charge to arrest them on already.

I went to college in a small town, and I remember there was a good 3-4 block area between the bars and campus where you'd have to dodge cops trying to pick up college kids for public intox. Now what do you suppose happens when you can't safely walk home from the bar? People wind up behind the wheel.

I'm not normally one for favoritism but c'mon. The guy is the 2nd player in ISU history to be inducted into the CFB hall of fame and yesterday was his day. We've all had our moments. I wouldn't have minded if a cop gave TD a ride home and let this one slide. Feel bad for him that his return to Ames ends like this.

I can sympathize with your story here but 99.99% of the public intox cases I have seen/been a part of were warranted. I guess I have never seen someone walking home after a night out, not causing any trouble, minding their own business, get stopped and tagged with a public intox. They have always been trying to pick a fight, stumbling into the street, pi$$ing in public, throwing up, throwing stuff at cars driving by, etc.

I always thought the Ames cops were reasonable. After we had a party busted at our house for a noise violation they gave rides home to a few people that were obviously not going to make it on their own, no questions asked.
