Vegas

These! Absinthe is the best show on the strip if you aren't easily offended.

"The secret pizza place" on the top floor of the Cosmopolitian is some of the best pizza Ive had! Cheap, sold by the big slice! There really is no Title to the place and doesn't even have a sign. We accidentally found it looking for a restroom! Take the main escalator to the top floor and as you get off on the top floor, just keep walking straight ahead. You will come to a long 30' narrow hallway with album covers (or something) on the walls. Next thing you know, you're in a small pizza shop! Its considered a local's hidden gem. And they're open late!

It's Vegas. Everything is open late.

Oh, who am I kidding? Does anybody actually visit these types of places in Las Vegas?

That is their "Rare". Looked like a hockey puck but wasn't too bad. I didn't know what to expect for $8 which included everything you see in the picture (yes, the beer too).

The red thing is a marker for doneness and you can see mine was red.

This is one of the things I never understood about people and Vegas. I guess I'm a bit of a food snob, but you are on vacation. Drop a few bucks on a top notch steak dinner, treat yourself. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the $1 beers and I understand, "What do you expect for $8" I guess I'm just more of a, "Yeah, it was expensive, but that was the best damn steak I've ever had" type of guy.

I was on a ten-week work trip. Not vacation.

But really it stemmed from me watching travel channel as a kid and seeing the $10 all you can eat buffets, cheap/free drinks, other cheap restaurants. There was a time where Vegas was trying to be "best bang for you buck because we want you to spend the rest in the casino". It has certainly changed. It's probably one of the top 3 food cities for food snobs in the country. So many famous chefs have a restaurant there now.

But I heard about this $8 steak dinner deal that has been going on for 20(?) years was supposed to be pretty good and it was in a brewery just off the strip that had $1 beers! Classic old school Vegas! It's a dingy casino with foreign dealers and smoke so thick you can barely see the TVs at the bar. It's great.

Believe me, I went to a lot of the fancy places during my time there but I definitely needed to mix it up every once in a while.

I've been 5 or 6 times and people always talk to me about the "cheap food."

No . . .my Vegas meals are generally some of the most expensive I've had in my life. And the best!

The OP is going to be surprised at Vegas after being gone 5 years. I tend to go every 2 or 3 and it's like a whole new city each time!

I feel like this thread would be better with advice of what not to do while in Vegas.

Spending $60 on a steak where they fly beef in from the Midwest. ;) Who am I to tell people how much to spend on their food on vacation...

Great thing about Vegas is it caters to all - expensive, cheap, mid-level.

Pinball Hall of Fame is a must.. You can play old pinball games back to the 50's..They have like 200 different pinball machines from the 50' to late 90's

Best non casino hotel is the Elara, the shades serve as a screen for a high def projector. So you have an 8 foot by 8 foot screen. And even though its non casino, it is connected (literally) tot he Planet Hollywood.

The Riviera was the last of the old hotels, and it go imploded this past summer.

This game was great during March Madness week. The banter and trash talking over these horses was hilarious.

I was playing it that weekend and it was getting loud, I loved it. Still doesn't beat the time I played it with a bunch of Europeans who were doing soccer chants the whole time.
