Matt Campbell and ISU #3 on ESPN Bottom Ten

Agreed. Equally frustrating are those that constantly tote how tough our schedule is as if merely playing a tough schedule was some kind of accomplishment.

I was having this argument with a friend of mine who is an Iowa fan, making the claim "we don't have the luxury of playing Rutgers and Maryland, etc." He made the counter-point "that's because you are the Big 12's version of Rutgers and Maryland and of course your schedule will be hard when every team is better than you."

I hadn't ever looked at it that way, but it really is pretty true.

A Hawk troll agreeing with another Hawk troll while both pretend to be ISU fans

Personally I'm getting tired of US contributing so much to Iowa's weak schedule. If we were any good people would respect their schedule more.

I agree with this. We have a tough schedule because we suck. Guess what though, the Big 12 was not awesome last year and is down this year. ISU really had a chance to make up some ground on everyone instead we are beyond terrible. Hopefully we can get some things together.

Going forward I expect Texas to be back to winning 10 games a year and Baylor taking a step back. TCU will also suffer because of the Texas uptick. OU is not a legit title contender though. They are a year or two in the weight room away. They have speed everywhere but if you look at their size compared to other real contenders...they are not close. Go back and look at them vs. Clemson last year.

We had the #3 SOS in the country last year. That's not because we suck. Yes I understand we don't get to play ourselves so that would be one less pretty much guaranteed win we're missing out on but that's not why our SOS was #3

It's also kind of depressing. Look I mean everything in context right? If I'm looking at a couple of similar teams with similar records sure I'll use schedule to try and determine who might have an advantage. Even some of CPR's teams who went around .500 you could realistically say we weren't too farm from 7-5 8-4 if we played in a different league. Personally I think that's a punk ass argument but at least I get it. But SOS isn't why we went 3-9 last year. And it isn't why we will be lucky to go 2-10 this year. It's just such a looser mentality.

That doesn't change the fact it's a weak-*** argument when we sit there and talk about our schedule when we are getting housed by 3/4ths of the teams we play.

I don't even think we can sit there and say "we'd have 7 wins with Iowa's schedule" anymore. We'd have about three.

And of course the counter to that is if you are a big SOS apologist you also have to give some credit to Iowa for why our SOS was ranked where it is/was. They are by far our most difficult non-conference opponent each year.

What do people argue? That'd we'd win 1-2 more games every year if we played in the Big Ten West? I think that's pretty obvious that the more bad teams you play the better chance you have to win. I think some people use it as a crutch to why we suck but that doesn't change the fact that's it's true that we'd win more playing an easier schedule. That's common sense
