King will be on Lazard wherever he lines up

Lazard graded out way better than Beathard by PFF. Good effort though. Nice touch with the "at least three dropped balls" line too

WR Lazard tries to carry offense with 111-yard receiving game

WR Allen Lazard had one of the few positive performances of the night for the Iowa State offense. Lazard finished with 111 yards on seven catches, forcing one missed tackle after the catch. He earned a 76.4 receiving grade despite two drops on 13 targets.

Another rough one I know. Keep being you.

What WR will they play that's better than Lazard this season? Darboh and Chessun for Michigan are really good but I think Lazard is better. Westerkamp for Nebraska is good too but Lazard is better than him.
Chessun will be the best WR Iowa faces in the regular season.

Huh? Lazard was "held in check" and grades out at a 76. Vandeberg looked like a man possessed out there and graded out a 79. Lazard had an inept QB throwing to him all game and Vandeberg and a very talented QB throwing to him. I know you guys like to pile it on when you get the opportunity but there's need to discredit our only good player

I said he was good. Piling on? C'mon man.

I'll disagree with that but we'll see I guess. Lazard has definitely been better so far this year and has 375 more receiving yards in his career than Chessun and Chessun is a senior

And he got ran down from behind by a linebacker. Little swearing went on when that happened, eh?

Yeah Lazard doesn't really have breakaway speed but part of that is because he's so big. I'm not sure what Jewell runs a 40 in but Lazard is a 4.6 guy. It almost looked like Lazard let up some like he thought he was going to score easily on that one but Jewell definitely covered a lot of ground. Jewell is a stud by the way.

I'm not discounting Lazard's talent at all. He is insanely talented and will have a long career in the league if he can stay healthy. Having said that, I do think Chessun is a bit more of a big play threat than AL. I think the disparity in yardage can be explained simply by the fact that he has had a lot more weapons around him during his time in Ann Arbor as opposed to AL in Ames.

In the end they are both extremely talented receivers.

That's fair but look who's thrown the ball to Chessun in his career and look who's been throwing to Lazard. Think the numbers Lazard would put up if he had a QB that could get him the ball consistently

Well, Chesson has also had **** offensive coaching for half his career. The thing is that if Chesson has 6 catches, he's probably going to have more yards because he's so much more explosive. Ideally, I'd like to have both of them. Lazard just isn't the type of guy who's going to do a lot after the catch and he's not going to torch someone down the field like a Chesson can. Right now, I'd compare him to Burbridge from MSU last year. He's a game changer but you don't get the shakes when he steps on the field like Corey Coleman or Doctson. He just isn't that dynamic. To me, a receiver becomes elite when they can score from anywhere on the field. They are really good when there isn't a guy on the defense that can keep him from catching an accurate ball. Lazard is the latter.

All of that said, he could end up having a better NFL career than those guys I listed. It's kind of a unique position for an offense.

Well, Chesson had **** coaching for two years. His two years with Hoke probably had worse coaching than Lazard ever has. But, yeah, right now he has a huge advantage. He also has at least one other NFL TE and WR on his team taking targets. Chesson is also a better blocker if we are taking that into consideration. That guy's a savage.

Lazard is a very good blocker too. Look at Lazard's OC's he's had, I'm not going to say anyone had worse coaching than him. Let's face it, Lazard has 375 more receiving yards than Chesson and has done it in one less season. That's impressive. Looking at the numbers it's a lot easier to say Lazard is better than Chesson than the other way around.

Again, Lazard has been the only option on the team for a large amount of his career. Chesson has had Funchess, Butt, and Darboh. Those are all NFL guys.

This is a ridiculous discussion because of the variables. Lazard is really good, King is really good, King wasn't always on him so we don't know much.

Agree with this. Just think it's funny to try to downplay Lazard like he's good but he's not that good. If he's not the best WR Iowa will see all year he'll be one of the top 2

. What a waste of talent-he could have been a stud at the right school
