Iowa Football Recruiting

Thats nice, but I asked how the entire history of ISU compares to KF's accomplishments in 17 seasons.

It's impossible to compare since they're competiting against two different levels of talent. You're comparing ISU playing real schedules against Iowa playing whoever they play

I wonder where the Super Bowl thinking came from, oh here ya go:

The biggest thing that he did was he made it important. He made it the No. 1 goal on the goal board — to beat Iowa,” said former ISU tight end Kyle Knock, who red-shirted in 1998 and played from 1999-2003. “The reason was, it’s in-state. Two, it involved a trophy. He wanted to have something to be able to put in the trophy case and say we earned that. So it started off as that. Then each year it became bigger and bigger because once we won, then it was win another one. Don’t be the team that loses one.”

Must just be a crazy coincidence that ISU started beating Iowa after McCarney made it the #1 goal of the program.

Point I'm trying to make is we are not that far behind you. Otherwise, how do have the success we do against you?

Because stylistically spread teams like Iowa State have given Iowa problems over the last decade or so. Ferentz's stubbornness and refusal to adapt his defense (until recently) means Iowa struggled with many inferior teams that ran/run spread style systems (Iowa State, Indiana, Northwestern, etc).

Oh you're talking about a coach we fired and I'm talking about your current coach who makes it his Super Bowl? That makes sense

Some actual information instead of "Super Bowl" or "Iowa doesn't care". Interesting

OK, ISU is 5-8 since they stopped making the Iowa game their Super Bowl.

Maybe they should re-emphasize it.

Can you find a quote from a former player where it states KF made it the #1 goal of the program?

ISU would fit in perfect to compete in the Big 10 West
Pretty sure that just takes into account recruiting rankings of the teams roster.

Good effort though.

Which shows ISU has talent similar to Iowa, which is why ISU has been beating Iowa. But keep going Super Bowl.

Which doesnt take into account player development and how bad recruiting rankings can miss on players.

The only thing that shows is the recruiting rankings between ISU and Iowa have been about the same for the current players on their roster.

A better judge of talent would show the amount of players drafted or on NFL rosters from each team.

Micah Hyde stared at one poster for over a minute in his career at Iowa. Do I need to call him for a quote?

You are soon to be .500 against Iowa in the past 18 meetings, let's not act like ISU has won 3/4 of the times we have played in recent memory.

And if you cant figure it out its pretty obvious, Super Bowl.

.500 means we are even with you which reinforces my argument...we are damn-near even...aka...not a huge margin between the programs.

There's the troll response I've been waiting for

Haha, I take it no linky to a quote then?

Actually there was a quote I remember of a player saying it was the first game Ferentz brought up when they get on campus as freshman. It was the same article that said they play the fight song all week. I will have to look for it

So kind of like Hayden Fry did??? I'm pretty sure he started it and he's your guy. Ripped off the Steelers, then got his team in to fake super bowl. Impressive.

In the last 15 years Iowa has a winning record against Michigan. Therefore Iowa program >/= Michigan program. I can get used to that.

My favorite quote is where he says this is our rivalry game, not one of our rivalry games

“Coach (Kirk) Ferentz sits us down and said, ‘This is Iowa State, and they don’t like us,’” Iowa senior linebacker Quinton Alston said. “This is our rivalry game — the Cy-Hawk Game — and it’s a big game for the city and the state. So there’s not much to talk about.”

Iowa has played five Big Ten schools at least 74 times, yet its in-state series against Iowa State has surpassed the others in trash talking and intensity, Alston said.

“I just hate Iowa State,” Iowa linebacker Fred Barr said. “I hate those guys. I can’t stand them."

“It’s not the coach that I hate or the players, it’s Iowa State,” offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde said in 2007. “It’s the entity that they are. It’s the whole rivalry"

“When people think rivalries, the first that comes up is Iowa State,” Iowa cornerback Shaun Prater said in 2011.

Ferentz hardly displays a public “rah-rah” persona before any game. His levelheaded approach upsets some Iowa fans, who accused him after losses of not placing enough importance on the series.

But Ferentz’s public comments and actions belie that perception. The program has placed Iowa State posters on doors in its football facility. An examination of his pregame comments over the last decade shows his respect for Iowa State and the series.
