MONDAY MUSINGS: Campos likely out for the season; analysis

If a hypothetical merger occurs between the Big12 and PAC10, how do they resolve the media contracts? I assume they don't get voided, but you'll have some awkward conflicts between the old contracts that need to be resolved somehow, I would think. However unlikely it is, it still is very intriguing.
On a side note, it will suck to be WVU if they have to start traveling to the west coast.

Both leagues are in bed with the same TV partners. I'm sure they could all sit down and work it out.

This isn't going to happen though. Not for a long time IMO. Perhaps in 2024 is when this move is made, when TV contracts come up.

Was reading through the thread and do feel bad for Campos being out. Good player and a local Iowa guy with a bright future. From what I hear ISU has some good OL coaches so hopefully for the Clones the loss can be minimized/mitigated as much as possible. I root for the Clones in all but one game. That said, what got me on the thread to respond is I can't fathom that people honestly believe that if something happens to the Big12, ISU will be picked up by the Pac 10 or the SEC. ISU has good basketball tradition and academics but zero football tradition and no TV sets to add. And the latter (football and Tv's) is what is driving the boat. Your best chance is the ACC. Seriously, like USC, UCLA, the Arizona schools, etc. want to come to Ames in November? And the SEC cares zero about basketball and less about academics, only about football and money so that is out for all Big 12 schools except Texas, OU and maybe OSU. If I were an ISU fan I would just hope 2 schools are proposed to be added to the Big 12 and that Texas and Oklahoma can live with them (although my guess is they will have to preapprove anyway) and then hold on and hope the Big 10 and/or the SEC doesn't come knocking.

I don't think anyone is intimating that ISU would get picked up by Pac12 or SEC. The possibility getting kicked around is that the Pac12 and Big12 would merge, which means all existing members would be part of the new conference.
Way different than ISU being a free agent picked up by a power conference.

The SEC merger makes a ton of sense. 24 Team conference - 2 (12) team divisions, 11 game conference schedule with 1 non-conference game. Conference champ is auto #1 seed in the final 4 and the runner up is probably the #3 seed.

It happens to all teams, but unfortunately the good teams aren't as dependent on their start players.

The solution is for CMC and Co to recruit more and better players so we have depth. Then guys like Campos don't have to play SO much and have to much riding on their health.

Then in a few year, if one of our best OL goes down, we have some depth there to shoulder the load.

This is brilliant. You should take this kind of insight to the coaches meetings. They probably never even thought of recruiting more and better players.

I know right? I guess it did sound like Captain Obvious, but the previous staff did not leave the cupboard stocked at OL. That's for sure.

It will take a few years but, if Manning sticks around, I think we will have more quality depth available. Guys won't have to play every snap during the season and we'll be better able to handle any injuries or attrition.

Did I just read from a poster that a full merger with the SEC and Big 12 is a good idea? Yeah for the Big 12. Wow in for a rude awakening. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, etc. want to bail out a conference with only 1 decent team for the foreseeable future. I am sure LSU wants to go to Manhattan, while Florida goes to Lawrence, Auburn goes to Morgantown and Alabama goes to Ames. Is that seriously the level of fantasy? Dear God.

I agree, hopefully it works out that way.

Plus they miss traditional rivalry games? So Tennessee plays Texas Tech as opposed to Florida? I am sure Florida wants a piece of K-St in Manhattan and not Georgia in Jacksonville. I hear Alabama wants to miss LSU and play in Ames. Was that ISU poster serious? This conference (Big 12) better move fast or some decent schools will be on the sidelines arguing that Northen Illinois, Arkansas St and Ball St are really world beaters.

It would go better than the New Year's Day bowls we have to watch, where the allegedly good B1G teams all get massacred by the SEC on the same day.

Never mind, that's kind of fun actually.

Why are you here again? I must have missed it.

If you want to talk expansion smack, please do it in an expansion thread. There are a couple of active ones.

Thanks.

Did Auburn not just go to Manhattan?

Each year required? And maybe in November? Are you guys seriously this off the rocker? Where is Twins for some levity? Unreal.

Aren't these last three teams the teams that the hawks schedule for noncon? Arky state almost beat the hawks, iirc.

So you're saying that the blue bloods wouldn't be happy with traveling to a school they feel superior to? So basically how OSU, Michigan, PSU, MSU, feel about their once a decade trip to Iowa City.

Wow Farmin? Good research. So besides OSU Iowa has more top 10 finishes than the rest of those blue blood schools in the 2000's. So you compare OSU or Michigan going to Iowa with Alabama or LSU going to ISU? I know you are trying to troll but do better.
