Regarding last blurb on BB power rankings. Big 12 gonna get vicious in the next few years with some new coaches who are going to beat you up not unlike Thuggins. Not looking forward to regular 3 hour 50 foul games.
I'm not surprised by the terrible news about Jake Campos. It seems "ankle" injuries are sometimes mis-diagnosed at first, then it turns out to be an ACL, ( Mike Moustakas, Kyle Schwarber).
Count me as all for merging with either the SEC or Pac-12 idea whether it is even possible or not. I'm for anything that would guarantee some stability to our conference situation.
Injuries in late summer early fall just a normal thing for Iowa State. New coaches wont change our luck. Next man up always needs to be ready to play at same caliber as the person he is replacing. In this case Curtis.
Analysis=we are screwed. Also, shows that the previous coaches weren't 100% at fault for every injury that occurred the last few years. Maybe only 75%.

I don't really buy the "olineman shouldn't be playing early because they get worn down and injured, see Burton" argument. They shouldn't be playing early if they aren't ready but there is no reason to not play a young guy if he is your best lineman at that position. Go look at some of the top olineman in the NFL. I bet a lot of them played early in college because they were really good. However, it seems most of the time guys are forced into playing early at ISU because of injury or attrition and that isn't good.
If a hypothetical merger occurs between the Big12 and PAC10, how do they resolve the media contracts? I assume they don't get voided, but you'll have some awkward conflicts between the old contracts that need to be resolved somehow, I would think. However unlikely it is, it still is very intriguing.
On a side note, it will suck to be WVU if they have to start traveling to the west coast.

It happens to all teams, but unfortunately the good teams aren't as dependent on their start players.
The solution is for CMC and Co to recruit more and better players so we have depth. Then guys like Campos don't have to play SO much and have to much riding on their health.
Then in a few year, if one of our best OL goes down, we have some depth there to shoulder the load.
If the merger were to happen, I'm pretty sure that WVU would leave the new conference and join some conference out east. No way they would travel to the west coast but, at that point, WVU leaving would not matter

Yeah mostly. Not really the part about the injuries. So many on here were convinced that the only reason there were injuries is that the previous staff was incompetent and didn't care.
The most discouraging thing about Campos isn't even that he'd miss this particular season. It's that he could potentially be heading down the same path as guys like Brock Dagel, Jacob Gannon, and Daniel Burton. His promising career has been derailed by injury after injury, and God forbid he decides to hang it up early like those other guys. But he could very well reach a point, like them, and realize that football may not be worth it in the end. I hope that's not the case, but we've had an o linemen up and quit on us 3 years running. Preparing my nut cup for more bad news regarding Campos.
As for his replacement, Shawn Curtis, was he not a highly touted recruit in the class above Campos? Anyone have info on why he hasn't seen the field yet as a RS Jr?

I had the same "oh yeah, that guy" reaction when I heard Shawn Curtis's name. Has he had injury issues too? A quick glance shows him as a 4 star with several nice offers.
If Bobek is legit and healthy, I think he or Meeker take over C spot, and Good-Jones moves out to tackle for this season. That seems like the best option to get the best lineman on the field.
But hopeful Curtis and some other guys who have been in the program have continued their development, received some new coaching/teaching, and are now ready to contribute.
